Not bad, I kinda like that story it is a nice concept. I only wish it was made into a series and such, it could have been really good. At least the second defendant had a conscience but this ended him. I wish we got to see more cases.

Would have been better as a short OVA series.

This has grown on me over the years. Interesting premise... and... really not as bad execution as I remembered. The old dub was horrible though, especially the attorney; bad enough that you couldn't take it seriously. With subs it's a lot more enjoyable and I'm kinda curious where they would've gone with the story too.

The badass defense attorney and presence of Enma-Oh 閻羅王 really made things more interesting than the Judge on his own.

For a short old OVA, it's not too bad.
Especially considering it's score, I expected worse.

Of course, the story suffer from having only so little time but it's not bad.

You know what gets me about this OAV? You see a build up toward a spectacular showdown between a prosecutor and a lawyer of the afterlife, as they conjure otherwordly spells, argumentative ray beams, erect protection barriers, nearly kill one another... While the defendant could have just been judged in the afterlife, after facing Enma's mirror of truth! If you can establish an indisputable truth, what's even the point of holding a trial? Why having a prosecutor and lawyer if the judge has a flawless deliberation tool at his disposal? A court exists as such so that the judge can ponder about morally ambiguous cases, he decides of a sentence in spite of a calculated risk of deliberating wrongly. The logic in Yami no Shihosha could have held through a twisted but coherent way, yet every step of the process is invalidated. It's simple, nothing has a reason to exist in this anime! In the end, it sins by absurdity, but still remains an enjoyable source of ridicule. Kind of as if it was unofficially about Phoenix Wright starting to delirate following a prescription drug's after effect.

It had some promise that could have made for an interesting full series hell girl meets ace attorney that alone would have been a pretty amazing show lol.

I thought it was fairly good, especially the story. Felt like a Yoshiaki Kawajiri version of Night Walker. I would've been intrigued to see more.

I assume the main character was a spoof of Egon from Ghostbusters, Nanase was cute (the bird mimicking her sex moans was hilarious), and the supernatural battle between the Judge and Defender was cool. Don't know wtf was up with Kawamata, he looked like the love child of Roger Smith from American Dad! and the basilisks from Dark Souls.

7.5 Objection! /10

I agree, it was a dumb way to end. It would've been better if the lawyer got him found not guilty (since it was headed that way before the mirror) or Kawamata himself had a change of heart and confessed because he actually felt bad for killing his friend.

Loved the story concept, you don't see it a lot, overall great OVA with some supernatural effects, LOL everybody looks normal expect Kawamata, he looks like a deranged 50s cartoon character,
I'll give it a 7, would love to see a full series with each episode having a different case.

I didn't enjoy it. The pacing is too slow during some parts and too fast during other parts. The end feels rushed, and the mirror, as others have mentioned, removes the entire conflict and has the viewer questioning the idea of an otherworldly court battle. I guess the mirror partially reflects the criminal's good side winning over; it did seem like he did feel bad. The buildup establishes some characters who are barely ultimately developed and are overall generic.

The character designs. animation, and colors are all lackluster. Why does the one guy have such big eyes? There's not a lot of animation either.

The concept is actually neat, so I might read the manga. As an OVA or film, this needed to be slightly linger (like 90s mins) and be better written. Otherwise, this could have been cool as a series with at least a few episodes.
