Why the heck would someone choose a a little girl to make the ultimate weapon. Wouldn't it had been much smarter to use someone who was already in the military and half-brainwashed? Probably the one who made the choice was a pedophile or sadist. This makes me so angry, they should at least tell the reason why they used her. I mean, why did they have use a little defenseless girl to experiment on, if they want to make a weapon out of someone, then why don't they use someone who is more suited or willing?

Uhhh... Because they need those characters to develop a romantic and emotional plot?

Isn't it obvious? Their aim wasn't just to create some anime with fighting; It's like asking why do you put lolis into a loli anime...

I think he's asking why the government IN the anime picked a little girl to experiment on, not why the producer picked her. I think. I'm not even sure if it said in the anime that she was picked, it's been awhile since I saw it.

I agree - and you see that in a lot of anime. "This 13-year-old is the only one capable of handling this job! Only he/she can save the world!" Give me a break. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Yeah, and the most stupid was that the government were the ones who made her capable of handling this job!

At least they could have thought up some reasonable excuse! I have seen half of the animé by now, but there doesn't seem to be an explanation in sight.

I know why there would be no plot if they had just used a solider, but what makes me angry is that it just seems like "they" (the military? I don't know yet) picked her randomly or something, at least they should have tried to give and excuse, but it seems like they think it was only natural to do these things to innocent people without even a reason.

You should be allowed to be that stupid, even if you are an "anonymous henchman" :P

im sure they could try and develop some deeper story behind her, but it was probably more about the final days till the end of the world type of thing.

the could make prequel explaining the initial stages of the war etc... but ultimately it all comes to an end and therefore it wasnt necessary to explain too much.

The OVA contains a half-assed explanation.

Most anime out there has underage people being charged with ridiculously important tasks (most commonly: saving the world). If you haven't realized this trend yet then you are either oblivious or living in serious denial.

It's still a stupid trend and shoddy story telling.

Of course I know of this trend, but in this animé it was used in a cruel manner. Usually they chose for themselves what they are going to do.
And the OVA explanation sucked.
Well I'm done watching it, and I somewhat liked the ending, so I'm gonna stop complaining.

Clearly the reason is that her DNA and bodystructure happened to be fit for the planned devices and they wanted a person who was still growing so that it would better adapt and in time improve compatibility with the implemented technology. Where an older person would have already been more established leaving less room for growth and adaptation the young ones still grow and become more in touch with the weaponry.

Also the ending was oh so annoying. I should watch the OVA someday just to check the explanation made by the makers themselves.

Frankly, this isn't a very relevant question.

Is it relevant to the plot? No.

Is it relevant to the main characters? No, they don't seem to care about the particulars.

Is it relevant to the conflict depicted in the anime? No.

This is about two people in love who happen to be in a rather unusual situation and how they react to it. Exactly how things became the way they are isn't important. Some suspension of disbelief is necessary if you're going to watch Saikano, and this is one of those things which you'll just have to accept. Some things just aren't explained, and in this case, it is because it isn't even important- Is it really so difficult to get over this kind of detail?

This question doesn't really deserve to be answered.
Nobody cares about why, it doesn't matter. The creators can always say something like sitha and voila it's done. The anime is about forbidden love and the last days of the world.

If people don't make these questions then an image will be made that writers, drawers, producers and animators can do whatever they want and get away with it.

We need to grill them a little bit so there will be some sort of quality control

Dont go looking for any kind of meaning in this anime, you'll just go insane. Really wretched show, I hated it, and yeah the OP's question is valid, not necessarily from an anime viewer's perspective, but from the perspective of the story which is full of plot holes and flaws. But the writer of the show knows the entire project is just catered for certain viewers (the ones that wouldnt be asking these questions) so he doesnt even bother to explain it.

Hey I am cool what that and I tried to explain that to him in a rude manner but guess not. :P Yeah you are right we all have opinions and we should learn from them and be able to give our own or a respected critique.

Yeah, as long as we're calling anime stupid and not each other, everything should be fine. People need to learn how to attack another person's reasoning and not the person personally. We're all guilty of it now and then, but just something to consider before you hit the 'post message' button.

You crazy people you.

Back to Saikano. I dont think you can justify the silly shit in this anime by simply saying it comes with the territory, the genre, whatever. If an anime is taking itself seriously, then we're going to as well, so when the anime does stupid shit, we're going to feel betrayed and call bullshit on what we see.

Saikano genuinely had interesting ideas it could have developed, it had maybe the only US soldier I've ever seen in anime being hunted by Japanese people, I mean it was topical, whatever, but the anime keeps heaping on the bullshit until anything that was interesting is drowned in plot holes and melodramatic "buncha girls fall for a plank of wood dude" crap.

I see signs of people missunderstanding the point with Saikanos story, It isn't about stupid boys which turns bad ass fighting heros after one day.

Takahashi, Shin wrote this story about love between two people after he had been thinking about how he would feel if the woman he loved was turned into a weapon. The war isn't the most important thing not either why people did this and did that it is not about they choose Chise instead of some stupid guy which turned bad ass killing machine from nowhere.

This story is actually about real love no fake harem love between one guy and several none realistic super cute girls which only lives for the sake of turning guys on.

You should all go and have a look at the Uncyclopedia page for 'Japanese High School' and that will explain it all.

Why do they use 14 year olds in Neon Genesis Evangelion? Why do they use a teenager to make into the ultimate weapon? Why does a teenager run a paranormal investigation company in Ghost Hunt?

It's simple.

So they can make them wear schoolgirl outfits.

Of course, the fact that most anime is aimed at teenagers may have something to do with it too, maybe...

No, it's definitely the sailor outfits.

I just watched episode two, and I feel like Sitha should have written this show. I mean, it would take like thirty seconds of screen time for them to say something to this effect and I would be happy. I'm probably going to drop this now because they didn't and i guess aren't going to. It's also going too fast for me! Two episodes and third base!?! Whoah there, tiger!
