THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Girl meets boy.

Boy is a man, considerably aged.

Girl is decidedly pubescent, unmistakably so.

"You look fine. VERY fine", he says with open gaze.

Having watched the other adaptation I expected Judy to be much more eccentric, not like a sunday school regular. I found some parts a tad funny even though it's in no way a comedy, like that moment when she fell of off the horse with the corresponding glitch like animation. Not that it was done well but the dub adds some value ;)

I decided to watch this on Tubi TV. I didn't know it was dubbed until the opening song started.

The dub is a big yikes. I can understand dubbing limitations back in '79 but damn Judy's actor could've put more feeling into the performance. And so could have the other actors.

And the vibes are definitely weird. I feel like I'll enjoy the tv series more than I really enjoyed this. Because honestly I'm sure the series actually develops a lot more than the movie/tv special did.

I've always enjoyed period dramas, and this one has many of the elements that I enjoy. I love the dresses that Judy wears, and I've often fantasized about dressing in a way similar to Judy, although most of my dresses are not quite as fancy.

The romance is quite the age gap, but considering that the book was written in 1912, it's not all that surprising. Judy was, at least, an adult by the time she and Jarvis got together, and he seems relatively genuine, and many women, especially in those days, fantasized about being with a wealthy, older man. Heck, my great-grandmother was 17, and my great-grandfather was 27 at the time of their marriage.

This was pretty good overall. No masterpiece, but not bad, either.

It’s time to ditch the text file.
