| The first season was originally licensed by Geneon USA back in 2007, and that dubbing was a shoestring-budget rushjob with uncredited nonunion actors. Geneon didn't even get it out the door before they closed down, but they were able to work out a distribution deal with Funimation. Sentai later re-licensed the 1st season after the Funi distribution deal ended, and they also licensed the 4th season. For whatever reason, Sentai decided not to dub the 4th season (or to even license seasons 2-3 at all, yet; see also their treatment of the To-LoveRU franchise where they skipped the 6-episode OVA between S1 and Motto), though I can't say why. Maybe Houston-based Sentai couldn't arrange to get the LA-based voice cast back together or do a suitable recast, or maybe they ran the potential sales numbers and decided that the extra costs of dubbing wouldn't generate enough extra sales, especially if they'd have to spend more to do the dub "by the books" vis-a-vis California law and recording industry practices. But Sentai's done things like this before when picking up sequels of series originally released by other companies, like Hell Girl S2+S3 and Someday's Dreamer's II. Both previous series were dubbed, by Funimation and Geneon respectively, but Sentai declined to dub the sequels. |
