THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
A rather abrupt ending apparently due to the cancellation of the series because of low ratings.

In consequence this episode had lots of unaffecting deaths: Sieg out for vengeance kills the Dess trikaya one by one then sacrifices himself, Muselle and Musiere are killed, general Leon also sacrifices himself (and for what?). At least no more people from the squad and neither Marie nor Lana become casualties, but the lack of aftermath prevents any feeling to be experienced about the destinies of each.

Same problem with the flowers: most of them looks destroyed in Dess' ship crash, so it's a shame we'll never know what happens to all the refugees with Marie (who needed the flowers to survive) once they reach the ground. Highlight of the episode was the psychedelic "discussion" between Jeanne and flowers, but again this scene is so quickly dealted with that its meaning becomes nothing more than superficial.

A superficial impression which is reinforced by the bgm: while not badly composed, its overuse, which often takes place at inappropriate moments (giving a cheery tone to war scenes), stresses the action side of the show. But that side is rather generic and repetitive. At least the mecha design is alright and would have deserved to be more developed.

Best part of the show was its OST: the opening Hoshi no deja-vu, the ending (One more chance?) and this song by Musica about light, darkness and flowers remain the unforgettable part of an otherwise average and forgettable series.

(Robotech) this was a really weird season, I haven't seen the next part of Robotech yet but I'm assuming this one suffers the most from the combining of three unrelated anime. the ending was bizarre as fuck and I'm guessing in Southern cross Zor's sacrifice and the floors meant something happy and symbolic while here they meant the earth is doomed AGAIN. Hopefully the New generation can equal the Macross saga in terms of quality.

It's all over but the lack of viewing the fallout makes it seem a bit hollow. Best part of the episode was the hallucigenic flower scene, the show could have used more of that! I also liked Seifriet giving Jeanne a kiss before his vengeful sacrifice. Overall, it was an alright series.

There didn't seem to be much thematic depth here and I hold to my idea that it would have worked better if the soap opera elements had been amplified and the other elements minimized. I think we could have had a lot more fun then.

I just watched the original series, and it doesn't nescarily make much more sense heh, could be said it makes MORE sense in robotech as it's given a bigger picture.

in original, zor are actually the name of the aliens, and the guy called zor was a human that was brainwashed to pilot the byroids and such :> The flowers are connected to how the species procreates, and the flowers on the planet were what they came for. Humans colonized the planet, and years later the zor returned.

Actually a better ending than I was expecting, thought it was going to just suddenly end at some random point but this was actually fairly climatic, could've explained more about the Zor but at least the main conflict was resolved.

Enjoyed the series quite a lot, Jeanne herself was a particular factor in that.

Now that I've seen the whole Super Dimensional trilogy I'd say this falls right in the middle with Orguss being on top and Macross on the bottom.

This definitely benefits from being integrated into Robotech than as a standalone show.

Combat in this was actually pretty fun to watch, with little noticeable stock footage other than some of the space/fleet battles, which is pretty impressive considering almost all of the battles were unique. I liked the designs of the armor/suits, and the mechs themselves weren't too bad either, with a fun transformation sequence that thankfully wasn't played out.

A pretty decent (if unoriginal) sci-fi story even if a lot of it was taken up by a shallow romance that I didn't give a shit about. But what really stood out to me was how the writing was able to handle people with such different goals and beliefs, and having them actually understand each other in some way. We don't see characters autistically talking past each other like you might see in Gundam. In this way, Jeanne herself is a dynamic character who operates on multiple levels and despite being headstrong like a protagonist should be, she does not have the typical one-track-mind and is able to help people with drastically different goals and beliefs (like Bowy and Seifriet) without contradiction. And not just the two of them, obviously she is able to sympathize with many different and unique people as the series nears its end. Overall, I was impressed that characters were able to move within their own space without the domineering 'moral of the story' really making anyone out to overly be good or evil, and everyone's actions having meaning for them as people, and not just part of the plot. Not that that makes it a masterpiece or anything. Honestly, the show was at its best when it was more lighthearted and comedic.

Also, fuck Robotech and fuck Harmony Gold. I'm tired of hearing about that bullshit.

Dekimashita!
It was terrible xD
Now I understand why I can recall some episodes of Macross and MOSPEADA from my childhood, but none of this show ... Cause it was awful xD
Nothing to say, bad script, animation and designs. But it was hilarious at times for those same reasons and made me laugh many times.
Now let's see how was MOSPEADA.
o/
Edit: yes, I'm rewatching ROBOTECH "series."

One of the few times the conclusion actually felt satisfying, and - cancellation or otherwise - the show's length felt just right. Like others have pointed out, Jeanne and her antics were among the show's best highlights.

Well, without the stupid juvenile Jeanne, this could have been a fine anime.
