I know this is a bit of an old thread, but I just saw the episode, and I have to say, my wife noticed something pretty cool about most of this episode. I didn't realize it until she mentioned it, but as soon as she said it, I realized she's so right!! Very, very "out of left field" homage on the part of the writer/director/whoever of the OVA, but it's obvious once you realize it. Did anyone else notice what movie was being referenced by the entire first part of the episode? It was totally a homage to....:

Even though it focused mostly on a side character I did find myself enjoying it. Obviously I miss Chihaya. Here's hoping we get a season 3!

Was this canon? Because it felt sort of like something that wasn't canon. Plot had nothing to do with anything that came before, and wraps up in such a way that it doesn't effect anything else.

It was nice to see some focus on character development - one thing I disliked about Season 2 is that there was too much focus on the karuta matches (two of them dragging on for a full three episodes) and we didn't get to see as many pure character development episodes like in season 1. Indeed, the high school tournament was covered in such detail that there wasn't any room left over to cover the queen match. But the thing about the character development in this episode, again, is that I feel like it's probably non-canon and is just going to all be wiped away anyway.

I actually really like Sumire, so her being featured in this episode was a plus to me. I'm largely indifferent to either ship with Chihaya. I just want Taichi to stop suffering.

ewww Sumire should just move on to someone else. AYASE'S LOVE TRIANGLE FTW.

Perhaps Taichi should just move on to someone else?

Aww, I missed Kana-chan. Pure innocence right there. I liked how she voted for Taichi x Chihayau. She knows what's the ideals ship.

Ending was funny. After the typhoon, they pretty much changed their plans. Nishida goes on stage with Hanano and Chihaya. Kana's expression was priceless.

I don't hate Sumire but for this to focus on people sitting around a table discussing what to do is just too much of a bore.

Eh, why would they make Sumire, a really annoying side character, the literal focus of the OVA? That's really annoying and boring. Bad ova.

Oh yes that reminds me how s2 started so annoying start thanks to Sumire and to think I could able to sit through whole this bottle episode with Sumire as main lead is really something haha.

Overall surprisingly managed to be okay episode for me given that how I hated Sumire. Also have been quite refreshing to watch since s2 never had chill episode like this.

Sorry Sumire, but you can't take Mashima
Well that's kinda sad, but at the same time I found the Manzai pretty funny
Too short though xD

Poor Arata, didn't get any screentime

Can confirm I copied this OVA and they broke my legs xD

I totally enjoyed that - laughed all through it! For me, the only thing better would have been more Arata, although seeing him get blown away by the storm on TV was funny, as was his sad little comment at the end, lol.

This OVA kinda shows how Chihaya is really the main contributor to this shows quality.
Felt weirdly flat and bland without her.

Cute and lighthearted episode. Not something big, not something utterly small, just a fine piece of typical and calm slice of life. :)

That Arata cameo at the end of this episode, haha. xD

Lol Hanano's devious plotting. I don't approve since I'm a Chihaya x Taichi kind of guy.

I'm suprised Sumire managed to smooth talk them all into doing the play but I guess at the end of the day Porky's original plan for comedy was definitely for the best lol.

I guess I missed this before starting Season 3; so I'm not even entirely sure where we are at in the plot. But, considering how much I enjoy Chihayafuru, I doubt that'll matter all that much.

Hm, it was a lot of fluff dialogue and planning without much else in the episode. I think the OVA would've benefited from showing more of the festival and/or play rather than spending so much of the time just talking about it. There weren't any particularly funny or moving parts compared to the actual series. It wasn't really bad, but it was just kind of okay.

Lmao they really played the dramatic track after Hanano suggested everyone to have a stage role.

Nishida is surprisingly pretty good on stage ngl

lmfao was this included in the dvd?

and what was that aliens thing at the end?

this was a solid OVA. idk why it's rated in low 7's. it should be mid 7's.

fun episode, gave me a little something to watch after finsihing season 3. i want more of this man, i love the characters so much. it feels right at home watching chihayafuru.

8/10.
