| The ordering of some parts are changed from the manga and anime. The manga did some political stuff first while in the anime it straight war then political in the end. So basically the anime when Shin(Xin) goes to war they cover it and then move into the King's issues. While in the manga it more of a mix of Shin(Xin) go into war and at certain moments goes into the King's side of the problem back in the palace. An anime adaptation is the studio's version of the manga. I think either way is fine. The anime also so far didn't cover what Shin(Xin) and Kyoukai(Qiang Lei) did together after the first war Shin went to. (An arc involving assassins against a certain someone) The cg in battles were okay/actually good in the first season. But in the second season they done it right. The background fighting will have CG soldiers fighting while the main battles with the characters are animated normally, adding more depth and detail that wasn't in the manga. But the english scanlation right now is ahead of the anime. The manga also has a bit more faster pace. But the battles, and emotions are stronger in the anime, because of voices, music, and animated faces. |

To answer your question, it does not affect the plot much. Just gave a reason why Kyoukai(Qiang Lei) decided to stay in the army with Shin(Xin). It is not different from the manga. The anime is faithful. They even added details they missed into the second season. (The king's background story, it because season 1 was only 39 episodes, so they couldn't put the king's background story arc until the second season, BUT they placed his background story at a relevant time) If you don't want to read the manga, you could watch the anime, the anime follow the manga, and adds more to it. |

| First season? Animation is awful. Story is great, but 3d animation is killing you. You get used to it after few episodes, but it is still bad. Second season however has way better animation and story is just as good. |
