THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- Going back in normal way (not extravagant like when Misaki came). News spread and some do not accept the fact. Usui did learn something about his brother while staying here. Warn conversation between the brother his father. Evil kaichou... thought so, he kissed her in front of Usui! Scary Usui!! Usui is back to Misaki's school, it seems. |

So...the last chapter concludes with Usui and Misaki finally calling each other by their first names and nearly having sex, yet such immensely satisfying developments are followed up with a forced kiss from the one guy that Misaki dislikes most. Ugh, so awful. Unfortunately, this was a terrible chapter and a woefully weak conclusion to a disappointingly trivial “climactic” arc. Following the 78th chapter and that intriguing cliffhanger with Usui's grandfather, it's felt as though Fujiwara had grown tired of illustrating the natural progression of the arc and simply desired to rush towards the beginning of the final arc, which I would have typically been able to merely disappointingly dismiss, but, rather than concluding this chapter with the simplicities of Usui and Misaki departing and a final farewell to Tora, some ridiculously pointless forced kiss was haphazardly strewn into the final pages, for whatever reason, as though Fujiwara was blatantly intending to irritate the majority of her readers. Usui's volatile reaction was terrific and quite surprising, but Tora's interferences had seemingly come and gone, along with the knowledge that the Walker complications had finally been resolved. This contradicts the necessity for a forced kiss to somehow "spice things up", since the arc was nearly complete. Of course, the only fragment of understanding that remains is the extremely bizarre reasoning that Fujiwara actually enjoyed his character and wished to afford him one final gesture of indulgence, but it completely conflicted with the interests and liking of both main character's, so I'm not really capable of viewing the kiss as anything but a highly contrived and detrimental mistake. In fact, this entire arc stretched the believability of each character's personalities, in which Usui was submissive, Misaki was weak, and Tora was exceedingly jealous, all of which completely contrast their prior characterization. Most importantly, why the hell did Misaki undergo all of her training if it wasn’t even going to be used in some fashion. Though I’ve always thought the 76th and 77th chapters were poor attempts from Fujiwara to solely illustrate some glorified shipping, I also felt certain that her preparations, at the very least, would serve an integral purpose for this arc’s larger narrative, but, following this incredibly rushed conclusion, it‘s become disappointingly evident that those chapters were only used to provide awfully cliched shipping material and a weak excuse to foreshadow Tora‘s contrived presence in the latter half of the arc. Fujiwara has never been capable of illustrating a realistic triangle, as clearly demonstrated by Hinata’s extremely weak portrayal as a rival earlier in the story, so she really should have avoided messily forcing one into this arc. However, beginning with Usui‘s prolonged detour at Miyabigaoka, her writing has become considerably less interesting and far more reliant on pithy shoujo cliches, unfortunately, so I shouldn’t have been surprised. As for this chapter, several of the individual elements were quite enjoyable, particularly Usui and Misaki’s beautifully subtle conversation. It illuminated a romantic depth to their relationship that continues to gradually evolve throughout the course of the story. I also loved the fleeting mention of a dance between them, since I’m hoping for one to occur in the final arc, as it would partially excuse the meaningless dance she had with Tora earlier in this arc. Gerald’s melancholic conversation with his father was unexpectedly poignant as well, as it momentarily touched on the complexities of Gerald’s tragic fate. Lastly, the final two pages were fantastic, as Misaki and Usui finally returned to school together, while also establishing a bridge into the final arc, which will likely remain untroubled, since the concluding chapters certainly don’t need to be ruined with an abundance of absurdly unconvincing complications. Aside from these few aspects of relative excellence though, the rest of the chapter was an immensely flawed mess. As Tora’s arc has concluded, this entire manga essentially portrayed him as a character who’s sole worth was derived from some inconceivable necessity to intermittently include shipping fodder. As such, I thought Tora and Misaki’s dance would easily be the worst and most inconsequential moment in this arc, but the forced kiss inexplicably accentuated the uselessness of Tora’s character even more. His confession would have been a much more reasonable conclusion to his character's arc, as well as a development that's far more in keeping with Fujiwara's tendencies, and yet, seemingly out of nowhere, Tora's despicably possessive "interest" in Misaki flared up once again and he simply felt uncontrollably compelled to abandon all pretense of maturity he might have gained throughout the story and publicly force a kiss on a Misaki that couldn't have been more disinterested in his petty indulgences. Such a ruination of an already mediocre character. The kiss, in and of itself, was incredibly pointless. It doesn’t progress the story or the larger narrative, it doesn’t develop Tora’s character, and, last but not least, it doesn’t even threaten to alter Misaki and Usui’s relationship or the character dynamics altogether. So really, was that particular moment, along with the dance in the 76th chapter, Tora’s “kind” gesture of placing his jacket on her shoulders in the 77th, and his confession in the 78th solely included so that a very small section of desperate fangirls could be momentarily placated with several shipping moments, because, if so, that perfectly illustrates just how absurdly conventional Fujiwara’s writing has become as of late. Simply put, he’s an arrogant jackass who uses his position and relative power to abuse and manipulate others, particularly Usui and Misaki, and his arranged marriage doesn’t even slightly alter my contempt for his useless existence throughout the story, since that’s considerably more than he deserves. He never learned from his mistakes, of which they were plentiful, and consequently matured, nor did he ever appear even slightly remorseful for his cruel actions throughout the story. I can understand the desire for an antagonistic character, but he shouldn’t be permanently inclined towards those deficiencies within his characterization. Eventually, given his role as a recurring character, he should have properly evolved. Since he hasn’t though, I would have expected some sort of noticeable consequence to the abundance of his selfish and often petty actions, but even following his forced kiss in this chapter, Fujiwara strayed from fully depicting Usui’s inevitably and understandably violent reaction to Tora’s own idiocy, for whatever reason. Also, Fujiwara continually manufactures this incredibly pathetic and unconvincing weakness in Misaki whenever she interacts with Tora, or any male aside from Usui, for that matter, most notably in the eighth chapter with Tora nearly raping her, the 27th with Hinata, and all of her interactions with Tora throughout this arc. It’s an extremely uncharacteristic affectation that only appears in her whenever Fujiwara deems it necessary that a “rival” should attempt to interfere. It essentially degrades her characterization for no reason whatsoever. In fact, both Usui and Misaki became unrealistically complacent throughout this arc, as though they were practically indifferent to the manner in which nearly everyone was attempting to manipulate them. Of course, had this been established as an unfortunate flaw in either of their individual characterizations prior to this arc, I would have merely considered it to be a natural extension of their personalities. Instead, Fujiwara constructed a deeply contrived scenario in which Usui conveniently departs for England, inconceivably devoid of the ability to contact Misaki, whereas Misaki, though immensely irritated at first, submissively allowed herself to be cruelly toyed with by Tora at nearly every turn solely because he was able to provide transportation to England. I’m hoping the following chapters distance both of them from these extremely naïve characteristics, since this last arc was very detrimental to their portrayal as “strong” characters. I find it unlikely that the final arc will come close to approaching the disappointment of the last two, solely due to the relative lack of potential complications or unnecessary drama, so hopefully the next chapter can re-ignite my confidence that the conclusion to this occasionally beautiful story won’t leave me exceedingly disappointed yet again. I apologize for the probably unnecessary length, but since this is the conclusion to Fujiwara's most disappointing arc yet, I felt compelled to comprehensively convey most of my criticisms. |

I totally agree with what Lelouch22 said; this arc was one of the most disappointing arcs ever! It seriously made me forget how much I loved this manga at its beginning; it just had to turn into a typical shoujo, how nice! I was just wishing for the manga to end because it's so bad at this point then I read at the end of the chapter that the final arc starts the next chapter; I just can't describe what I'm feeling. |

I dont know how I feel about this manga after all, I mean after reading these last few chapters I just feel that the author is portraying Misaki as this weakling who can't survive without Usui who is my most hated guy type. It wasn't my favorite arc of the manga either... It was ok, would have liked to see a much better resolution to the family issues, like how about people acting talking it out, guess that's going too far. The other president grew on me, and yeah he fell for her but the kiss seemed more to be about making Usui uncomfortable than anything else. |

THE FINAL ARC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm gonna cry, I've been reading the releases since about chapter 40. // I always found it difficult to take the last chapters seriously. The manga hasn't been that exciting, but I still manage to get some pleasure out of it. It was a simple outcome that left me a little disappointed, but at least I like how the relationship between Usui and Misaki has been progressing, she seems much more feminine after all this. The kiss seemed exaggerated, Igarashi was never a rival in the relationship, just a parasite with money, all this "love" seems more like an insensitive joke. We are reaching the final stretch and I feel guilty for wanting the end of this work that in the past captivated me so much. (Sorry for my english) |
