Lesson learned.Don't consume magic mushrooms. But do accept them.

The sequences of Spike,Jet and Faye tripping had me rollingXD. It was fresh to see an Ed centered episode.

This episode was pure FUN! It reminded of the first time I ate hallucinogenic mushrooms lol

I just didn't see much Samba, for an episode with "Samba" in its title.

Lovely episode, a lot more focused on the fun aspect and really light hearted ^^
Ed shows us she can clearly carry an episode by herself!

Watanabe sure does love mushrooms. I remember that there was a mushroom episode in Samurai Champloo as well. Anyway this episode was really funny and I love that Ed got more attention.

This has a very different tone from the rest of the show thus far. Perfect episode to focus on Ed. I just like that she unintentionally  drugged her crewmates

also spike going to heaven, i think it symbolises his death complex. he will die if given death as a choice

just when i was hoping they'd retired that dumbass bounty cartoon thing.... rip.

this kid is still annoying af too. Shouldn't stayed on whatever planet they found her on - even moreos after giving the entire crew the mushrooms that were clearly hallucinogenic.

i guess it kinda worked out in the end, but i still feel like i wasted my time... especially since the last episode was pretty good.

This episode had the potential to be the best episode of the series. Ed is by far the best character in the show, and I'm glad she finally got to have her own episode. However, as Cowboy Bebop always does, it misses opportunities, especially in this episode. While Ed and Ein were fun, it was hard to overlook the constant racism in this entire episode.

First of all, the title of the episode is "Mushroom Samba", and this episode features a lot of black characters. While the characters are not drawn in a racist way, the title has the word "Samba" in it. This is important because there was a story that was made in the past called The Story of Little Black Samba, which was very popular around the world in the 20th century, and featured racist depictions of black people. This story is actually still popular in Japan to this day. This title seems to be a clear reference to that book, which is quite racist, especially considering the high amount of black characters featured in this particular episode.

Second is the watermelon. It is a common racist stereotype to depict black people as eating fried chicken and watermelon, and this trope originates from the slavery days. And of course, all of the black characters are eating watermelon in this episode.

While there are some other possible racisms in this episode, I think that these two are the biggest ones. A few too many things lined up like this in this episode for me to not think that there was at least a little bit of racism going on in somebody's mind here. This is what Westernization does.

Westernization again caused racism, and caused Cowboy Bebop to waste even more potential.

Rest in peace Angelo Nicotra, great italian dub voice actor and met again as Domino Walker this time (if i remember he was also the villain from the film).

About the episode... It never disappoints. Bad mushrooms are bad, poor main trio hallucinating like that (even the eyecatch was... wasted). This is still entertaining not just for two of the weirdest songs from the OST and especially Mushroom Hunting that is just catchy and unforgettable ("Africa, Mexico, Sicily, Tijuana, India, Osaka, Indoneeeeeesia") but also because of a great train chase and well used screentime for Ed and Ein. Forgot the final minutes, it was a relief to discover they all didn't go to jail and had finally food again on the table. Too bad Ed was the only one watching the funny Big Shot couple this time... Oh, well, the other people weren't in a clear mental condition to pay attention to begin with.

When the shrooms start kicking in

I didn't understand the word ''samba'' in the episode title. Samba is a rhythmic dance style here in Brazil, but I didn't see anything about it in the episode.

it was ok (3/5)

Led Zeppelin reference? Hell yeah. This episode is pure chaos, trippy as hell, and Ed finally gets the spotlight.

The Bebop crew is starving, stranded in the middle of nowhere. Ed, being the little gremlin she is, takes it upon herself to find food and stumbles into a whole psychedelic mess involving a mushroom dealer. Meanwhile, Spike, Jet, and Faye? Absolutely gone. Spike walks an infinite staircase like he's ascending to heaven, Jet starts having deep conversations with his bonsai, and Faye swims through the air.

How do they escape the cops? By doing absolutely nothing. The chaos just sorts itself out, as it always does in Bebop.

Final Take:
โœ… Led Zeppelin reference? Check.
โœ… Bebop crew high as hell? Check.
โœ… Ed outplaying everyone? Check.
โœ… Pure unfiltered madness? 100%.

At this point, Cowboy Bebop is just flexing on other animes.

What starts as a goofy treasure hunt—Spike and Jet messing around with a busted VHS—turns into one of the most **soul-crushing, existential episodes in Bebop.**

Faye gets a package, and for once, it’s not debt collectors or bounty hunters. **It’s a tape.** A recording from **her past self**—a girl she doesn’t even remember. Young Faye, full of life, leaving a message for the future, never realizing the future **would erase her.**

**This is Faye’s tragedy in one scene.** No breakdown, no grand realization—just **silence.** Because what do you even say when you watch a version of yourself that’s so alive, so full of hope—while you sit there, lost and alone?

Bebop isn’t just about space cowboys, jazz, and action. It’s about people with nowhere to go, trapped in a past they can’t escape.** Faye’s been running, pretending she doesn’t care, but this episode proves—**she’s been lonely all along.literally me

Ok ep. We got to see a bit more of Ed this episode with Ein. Just some wacky fun with mushrooms.

I liked the bit where ed just left a single mushroom on a plate and how each of them ate it.
