| Yeah, I'm pretty sure he died. He was given just enough time though to go back and visit Akino one last time. Also, the reference to the color of the mountain turning blue implies that his color was left there as a reminder to Akino that he once lived there. |

He was going to move on instead of staying as a tree spirit but the girl made him feel regret. He kept on existing for her sake until there was a fire that burned him down. Before he left "for the heavens", he struggled all the way to the girl's high school to give her his final feelings before passing on. The only way that there is proof that the spirit existed and proves that he existed to the girl is that every autumn, his unique color is cast on all the leaves in the forest even though he's not a tree spirit anymore. 7/10 (Good read) |
