THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I didn't expect it to be great, but man, this was disappointing. I recommend the Chinese Live Action movie over this. Imagine Hokuto no Ken without Hokuto Shinken/People blowing up. The violence was minimal and the story was butchered. They changed some minor scenes like instead of that girl's picture, they showed his adopted parents' picture, but then they decided to show her later. The story telling was really random and they adapted random scenes from the manga.

As an adaptation, this was horrible. As a standalone OVA, it's not good either. I recommend the Chinese movie and the manga.

Huh? If you mean Riki-Oh's love interest they never showed her in this, just his ramen-child friend. She was actually one of the few who were adapted faithfully. Oh, and the live-action's corny as hell. At least this keeps the manga's tone. Violence-wise, these two are actually similar to it overall. Just that this prison arc there was exceptionally graphic.

Yeah, sure, storytelling was rushed. To be expected from cramming the material into half its runtime.

They should make a TV anime with as much gore as the live action film but spread out the story.

This wasn't too bad. The pacing was all over the place and the story was quite simple, but man the blood, gore and violence in this ova was pretty neat. Doesn't even compare to Hokuto no Ken though

I lol'd when the chairman's face sucked inwards. Very good, very graphic and very funny

Pacing was shiet, but I still liked it. Recommended to anyone who's into GAR action and gritty stuff.

I liked the gore and the animation, but the rest was horrible. I think I'll read the manga instead. No Mercy is a banger though.

I wonder how much more fun this would’ve been if watched while drunk. All in all, it was good enough to stop me from hitting the stop button and shelving it. Not exactly a classic but not terrible.

it's a good OVA

I watched this after watching the Hong Kong live action, and was surprised by how similar they were with their story beats! I wonder how faithful each is to manga? Or maybe the live action is more faithful to this OVA itself!
