I'm curious to find out why people play so many different styles, i play one hand because i believe it's more of a challenge, also i started 1 handed so i never went to spread, how about you guys?

2 hand for me. Started that way, since I saw a video of a person playing like that at Youtube. That was way before I started Stepmania.

I believe with 2 hands I can get the most potential of my ability.

I wanted to find a pad, but can't find a decent one so far. Maybe in the upcoming holiday I'll look for it downtown.

i play spread cuz playing crazy fast streams with doubles, tripples, and quads all over the place is nearly impossible any other way, and a lot of my favorite files are like that

spread... because I started with arrow keys... then my middle finger couldnt do all the ups and downs at once.. and what not... so I just moved two and two: left down - left hand right up- right hand...
then later I just redid the settings and put them near each other... so yeah xD >.>

i actually slide my middle finger between the up and down arrows on my keyboard, it hurts after a while but it works fine for me.

thats what i did when i tried playing 1 handed for a day, it worked ok but it didn't allow me to play really fast stuff like any of my "The Berzerker" files ("no one wins" is like the hardest frikin shit) or jump/hand crazy files like st. scarhand or shind bad(dew's version) so i went back to spread. if you want to play the hardest songs you can play, spread is superior to all other styles.

Play spread. It's the only way to go if you want to maximize your potential without dual-setup. If you're used to another way, or have never thought of playing with two-hands, don't feel like you're cheating yourself out by dedicating each arrow to one finger. The majority of the pros play spread, and I encourage you to also.

@ArashiKaze, I think there's an Otaku's Dream Anime Mix for pad.

What I said was, I'm looking for a dance pad, not simfiles for pad.

Oh, and the only way to get AA on Sanjuro's simfiles is to play spread :D

based on this stetement i can tell that atleast 1 of the following 4 statements is true

1) you are being sarcastic and i'm not realising because i normally expect sarcasm to be funny

2) you are mis-remembering sanjuro's files and think that they're harder than they really are

3) you drastically underestimate the potential of other styles (although i do play spread and agree that its the best)

4) sanjuro made some really hard files in the new pack but i don't know because i haven't played it yet (i will as soon as i can)

edit: played them, they are easy

sheesh, do you guys ever play files that are actually hard? if you have to resort to banging on the keyboard for sanjuro's sims, i'd hate to see you try and play something really hard. i have yet to play the new song pack (various circumstances have rendered me unable to download it for the time being) but in sanjiro's pack the hardest file for me was power of the dragon flame (its a 15 but i think thats a little high) and i can AA it without too much difficulty.

I was a noob back then :D

That file should be a 11-12 for higher levels I know. Back then, I couldn't even finish a DragonForce song, and if I did I got a C. But now it's different. WOMG

The songs I've made is for fun. There are more players that can do a 11 footer than there are that can do a 13 footer. That's why I make these "simple" files. I can FC every song in the new pack (except "Six"). Seeing it from certain peoples perspective, these songs may seem hard. For others, they are easy. I play them with index, but I play harder songs with spread. Not that good with index yet. U_U

The RedOctane soft pad (not the ignition) was fabulous, but they discontinued production shortly after Activision acquired them (and after news of monetizing B.net for D3 and splitting SC2 into three releases, fuck Activision... though I may allow them redemption of Quantum of Solace's splitscreen multiplayer for Wii is any good)

..aanyway, now I can't really recommend any soft pads. Just get one of the bundles from eBay, they're relatively cheap and they'll last you a while. Serious pad players absolutely need a Cobalt Flux or BlueShark metal pad though.

I'd prefer a soft pad if possible though, maybe its easier to carry and store. Are those bundles good? Not slippery, can register double arrows (air), specs, etc.
That RedOctane you said, is it really extinct?

Well actually, Amazon sellers are still selling a couple of them.

There really is no better soft pad. (I'm not counting soft pads in the same category as foam pads, which I actually strongly dislike)

Hmm, are all pads made for PS2?
If it needs a PS2 to USB jack, I already have that. Just concerned with compatibility issues. Or better, I don't know anything about pads. =/

I heard DDR universe pads are USB but I know nothing about compatibility with those.

I use the parallel adapter found here http://www.buynshop.com/category/45/
I haven't had much luck with USB adapters since they inevitably break for whatever reason, others seem fine with them.

As for play styles..
I play with to hands on the Arrow keys.(Keys mapped Regular)
I started out playing on handed.

Other ways I play.
I do have a redoctaine ignition 2.0 mat(the one with usb/xbox/ps2)
Also mapped a X-arcade(solo) stick to see how well that worked out.(works WELL if you play keyboard songs)

Spread. It's how I started, it's how I'll always play. Tried learning index a while back but yeah. Spread allows you to play the hardest and most rewarding songs out there, so I like. xD

I use all three styles; different styles for different step patterns.
One hand if the song's relatively slow, or has a ton of crossovers.
Index if the song's at medium speed, or has a lot of trills.

Spread's the one I'm learning right now; all the impossible simfiles require spread I think...when I spread, I use:

left arrow = S
down arrow = D
up arrow = up
right arrow = right

For the jackhammers in ichirin no hana, just put another up arrow somewhere on your keyboard. By alternating, it becomes pretty easy.
