Okaaay... I was just wondering... did anyone else NOT like that movie??

Cause I watched it and stuff... and I hated how they suddenly turned it into a mecha... and how it jumped from one piece to another so much, and in the end they just LEFT Ed and Al in the other side of the gate??

And then there was a random war... I just thought that the movie didnt really flow right.... THAT is not the right way to end an awesome series like FMA!!! T~T

How old are you? Do you have no concept of World War I? Granted its an alternate universe post WWI, but its still sticks to the basics of postwar. -_- how is it mecha? Just because Al doesnt have his 'magic' anymore? He's stuck in the real world remember? As an aftermath movie i thought it was pretty good.

Uhh... sorry if I'm wrong but wasn't it like the beginning of World War II? With the whole rise of Hitler thing.... The mecha thing was that part near the end.... when they were fighting with the people in Ed and Al's world.... the things with the black goop on them... they never really explained what that black stuff was either.

And really I'd have no complaints if it was an aftermath movie... but the movie is like the 52nd episode of FMA... so it should have been more of a continuation of what happened in the 51st episode... but I think they strayed off of that a lot... and the ending seemed a bit rushed too =/

I agree. This movie totally sucks. It was so boring that I couldn't watch it at once, coz if I had to watch it without breaks, after 20-30 minutes I would fall asleep. It's good that the anime adaptation stopped on this. Coz FMA would totally go down.
But there is still that bunch of kids who will say that this was so awesome etc. and they didn't even read manga. For me, this movie and the tv series was a big dissapointment. Well, it was better than Naruto movies, but still not a memorable.

The movie itself wasn't bad, really, but it was kinda sucky for FMA standards. Everything was rushed, incomplete, ending was a bit disappointing, the CGI was a flaw in FMAs otherwise flawless animation. And the villain was a blowhard. The historical references and the Thule society conspiracy stuff was pretty cool, though.

The black stuff was the people that are inside the gateway and they weren't mecha, just suits of armour.

I nearly cried after the ending, I was really stupid. I think it was because Ed and Al never got to see if Roy and Riza get married...but that's just a selfish thing to cry for. I hated how Ed and Al was left on the other side of the gate.

I'm currently reading the manga and in my 50th chapters or so, and I didn't think the anime and movie were THAT bad. They were pretty good considering they went entirely off track.

I'd much rather have the two brothers together, than split up. The movie could've used some work, but I'd still recommend it for anyone who's watched the anime.

Well :/

It was really really great that Ed and Al end up being together again, and that Al gets his memories back. That was wonderful! :)

But it should definitely have been happier :( Everyone should have been together in their own world, and Ed and Al didn't even seem that happy to see each other! There should have been just a little more bromance :)

It was bittersweet where it should have been happily ever after :(

P.S: Does anyone know if there is going to be another season?

It was okay.. They could have done a bit more with the animation and the characters, as well as the plot. The ending was good.. It just doesn't seem right that the two are seprated.. but I would have to say that they could have done alot more with it seeing as it is the end to the FMA series.

It is a continuation of the series a couple of months or a years after Ed comes to the other side. So really it wasn't much of a continuation but it is.

Ah, I feel like I'm the only one who really, really enjoyed the movie. :<

I thought it fit FMA's mood rather well, considering it was never a truly 'happy' series to begin with. It was a bittersweet ending, but Edward and Alphonse were reunited and, no matter how hard it was to accept, their leave was accepted nonetheless by everyone they left behind. After all, it was a necessity and, as Edward himself said, they could no longer put their own desires above the well-being of everyone else.

Additionally, the animation was absolutely gorgeous.

I loved it. It was way better than the Brotherhood ending... Shamballa had a bittersweet ending to it, which is great in my book. I just hope that someone will continue the story later on one day.

The movie sucked very badly. Of course this is after I've watched brotherhood...but even before that I can safely state that I wouldnt have liked this movie. Too much going on, not enough information being given to confirm those actions....waste of time.

Awful, Awful, Awful, Awful! What a terrible way to end the original anime.

They didn't explain anything and Ed pretty much just goes back, says hello to everyone, and then leaves them all alone! What about poor Winry!!? Wasn't Mustang waiting for Ed to return too? Why the hell would he just let him go? I don't even see why they needed to close the gate...I mean its not like they would keep sending soldiers in after the last batch were decimated.

It also felt waay to rushed. I mean they gave hoienheim, gluttony, envy, and wrath like maybe 10 mins of screen time. And they all ended up being transmuted. The writers could have done so much with those characters!

Most importantly, what was all that black gloopy crap? Why did it cover that creepy blonde woman end give her like a weird freaky suit with scary red vision. Why the hell was gluttony like that? There was no good explanation for his grotesque form.

The whole thing is just...oh my god...it was just horrible. I love fma so much but this just ruined it. Still, I can keep pretending that brotherhood is what really happened and the first anime was just a spin-off.

*Face palm* That's why he said post WWI. World war 2 does come in in like 5 years or so after that I believe

I really liked the movie and I watch it first before the original anime, I actually understand why they were put on the other side because ed and al still wanted to help people on that side and Winry realizing she can't bel them anymore decided to keep making automail that's my opinion

I know this is now 10 years old, but I've been rewatching Brotherhood lately so I took the time to rewatch the original series and for the first time ever this god awful movie. For starters they pushed the Nazi trope way too hard, as if it wasn't enough that they threw in the subtle clues such as beer hall meeting and as a history buff I fairly enjoyed that, but it felt that Funimation was constantly reminding us that the bad guys are fucking Nazis. Secondly, since we are on the topic of Nazis how fucking dare they make Hues one,he's just an animated character but turning a dead respected hero into a fucking Nazi? Big fuck you Funimation I would rather guzzle on a sea of big fat black cocks if it meant you would never run any other good characters through the mud. Thirdly, I don't give a shit if Roy is butt hurt, you can't break military code to fit your plot. A general can't just give up his rank and become a enlisted fucking soldier this isn't COD where you just prestige everywhere. And my final, and of course biggest problem with this film, the ending. You're fucking telling that you made people wait 2 years just to give everyone the same fucking ending of Episode 51 but instead with both brothers on Earth? Bull. Shit. There was absolutely no fucking closure to this! I mean this for the viewers and characters alike! Winry waited for Ed to return and all they do is hug, give him his automail, then he fucking leaves. I would have been ok with this ending had Winry also tagged along, those 3 have always been together but nope she just gets tossed in the fucking wind. This movie is such an unfortunate dump heap. Thank god for Brotherhood.
