Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi (Info)

Genre: Comedy, Parody, Romance, School Life

Plot/Summary
Ookami Ryouko is a spunky and, by some accounts, rather manly high school girl. She is tall, speaks in a traditionally masculine way and is very proficient in fighting. Ookami-san's best friend is the small and high-pitched voiced Akai Ringo. Incidentally, the two are rather flat-chested, a fact the Narrator, voiced by Arai "Kuroko" Satomi of Railgun fame, is all too eager to point out.

Ookami and Ringo are members of the Otogi Bank, a club in Otogi High School that assists students with their problems in return for their assistance on a different problem at a later date; thus the Otogi Bank is effectively a loan institute for problems where you can take out a loan for a solved problem but you have to repay it sooner or later.

The Otogi Bank is able to solve any problem and will go to any lengths to do so, often leading the members to danger or mayhem. Since all of the members of the club are female, a male one is needed for the more dangerous assignments. Thus, the scopophobic (the fear of being looked at) Morino Ryoushi is inducted as a member, right after he confesses his love for Ookami...

The series parodies many famous fairy tales, either with puns relating to names or fairy tale themes being used in creative and funny ways. The two main heroines' names are a play on words relating to the story of Little Red Riding Hood; Akai means red and Ookami means wolf. The title of the anime is a pun for the full title of Snow White and translates to Wolf and the Seven Companions. Other fairy tale parodies include Cinderella and The Ant and the Grasshopper.

Comment:
This is one of the most anticipated shows of the new season for many but will studio J.C. Staff fulfill those expectation or not?

The first episode had solid humor and many noticed I'm sure a girl who looks like a grown up version of Taiga Aisaka from Toradora!. The main character has an interesting trait and there were a few anime references (Prince of Tennis and such). I also liked Satomi Arai as the story narrator seems like a good choice for a comedy oriented anime. What are your impressions?

I thought the first episode was great~

The Narrator is Satomi Arai..... it's Kuroko. The narrator is actually Kuroko. Not just the same VA, but it is Kuroko..... I know it. xD

I was half expecting Rie Kugimiya to voice Ookami Ryouko...kinda disappointed she didn't xD

From what I've seen in the first episode it has potential but depending how they go with it Ookami-san could fall in the category of one of those typical high school clubs animes that's been done 100 times over...

First episode was definitely really solid. I would hope they cut down on the narration though. It was funny from time to time but it go excessive and a bit annoying. Not to mention Kuroko ummm err narrators voice is a bit annoying. The after credits ending was freaking hilarious though.

Definitely agree. I do think they need to step it up later in the series to give this anime its own flavor so to say. Doesn't need to be 100% unique per say but it does have to bring something to the table that a lot of the mediocre school comedies don't. I do see the potential though.

I second the excessive narrating problem.

I can see that she's flat chested, don't need to be reminded every 4 minutes thank you

I see no Ryouko Ookami, I only see a taller Taiga Aisaka with a different voice. I mean, she doesn't look at all like Taiga in the novels...Well, I guess she's not voiced by Rie Kugimiya because she's taller than the rest of Kugyu Tsundere, and it would sound weird to use her tsun tsun voice on a taller girl.Plus, not ALL tsundere have to be voiced by Rie Kugimiya.
Anyway, seems I'm one of the few people that loved the narrator.C'mon, it's KUROKO !!Satomi Arai has a unique voice which I don't find annoying at all.

About the series, I enjoyed it a lot.All the fairy tale refferences are funny, and Ringo seems a catchy character.

Cool so far, though I'd love to see more of the fairytale aspect rather than cliche romcom stuff, anime don't use western fairytales often.

Hopefully the narration won't be present on the next installment. Pretty good so far, most likely will keep up with this one.

Cranky young hag narrated the whole fairly-odd-tales

But the 'i can recall that' kick on the 'Prince of Tennis' was priceless
