First of all, let me make it clear that I'm not hating on Haikyuu (I really enjoyed binging it) but the similarities are so many that they can't just be ignored. The matches, the characters and even their backstories match to the point that it cannot just be called "taking inspiration". (Please don't curse my generations if you disagree)

I do curse your generations sir lol. I can’t stand sports anime/manga normally. Slam Dunk and boxing titles have been the exception. I was addicted to Slam Dunk and I still don’t know why. Haikyuu I watched one episode and wanted nothing to do with it

Yeah, there are similarities between Slam Dunk and Haikyuu.

I just recently finished the Slam Dunk manga and the CGI movie, great stuff.

Yes, they're quite similar. But I think that's good. It's better to take inspiration from the best than imitating generic things

Pretty similar yeah but that's partly due to sports manga tropes, e.g. like there's typically an edgy dark haired side-character like Kageyama or Rukawa

No, both of them are completely different.
It's true that Haikyuu was probably inspired by Slam Dunk, but keep in mind that the classic Shonen Jump "big three" (Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, Yu Yu Hakusho) influenced almost every manga coming after them. You can tell that most, if not all sports manga, were influenced by Slam Dunk in one way or another.

Slam Dunk's main theme is maturing through basketball, and character development is centered around that. Haikyuu is mainly about overcoming mental limits and understanding one's self.

With that said, I consider both of them fantastic, so there is no need to debate whether they are similar or if one of them is better than the other, because at the end of the day, they are different and are highly enjoyable regardless.

as in the impact? I think is totally different Sakuragi is bad temper, snobbish also during this age delinquent is everywhere. even in my high school (I'm 41 this year) Haikyuu is the modern days high school which is youngster these days no longer highly involved in gangsterism. Hinata are less easily provoke unlike Sakuragi, for storyline Haikyuu shows Hinata potential since the beginning, Sakuragi is at the end of the series. yes both anime have a let down during final. but Inoue Sensei stop the manga cuz he dislikes Slamdunk half way. where by haruichi Sensei promised us and make Hinata as he promised, the little giant although after high school. but his final battle with Kageyama was awesome.

What do you mean? Sakuragi slam dunked captain Akagi in 1v1 and it was his first time playing basketball. His potential was clearly shown from the first chapter.
