Of course, the season finale had to end on the biggest season cliffhanger so far, sigh. I really hope they don't keep doing that every season. Anyone still watching loves this anime, so there's no reason to leave off on a cliffhanger to make sure viewers come back.

I will admit, the reveal that it was Seven who fell for the trap and not Thirteen completely surprised me. It was obvious that it was a trap, but that was done intentionally so that nobody would even think of another twist.

The whole fight was fantastic, especially seeing Seven incorporate all of experiences in other battles and borrowing tricks he learned from others. It was beautiful. Additionally, the message about using your new experiences to determine your true self instead of trying to remember every detail about your past is something I don't think I have ever seen done as well as here.

Nine turned out to be pretty cool and was well worth bringing him into the story out of nowhere. I still would have preferred more with him before this confrontation, but the fight was still great.

I know I complained about the cliffhanger, but I think the better place for the cliffhanger would have been right when Stone Gate trapped Seven in the chasm. Adding the extra bit with the real Thirteen this time coming to help is nice and all, but I think it would have worked better as the season 6 premiere instead of the season 5 finale.

My overall thoughts on the season is that it's still an easy 10, but probably one of the weaker seasons so far. Though then again, I said the same thing about previous seasons and then changed my mind once I binged the dub when it released on Netflix, so that could still happen here as well. As usual, the animation, the humor, and the creativity keeps reaching the highest bar possible.

That being said, the story seems to be trying to pad things out longer than necessary. Green Phoenix was kidnapped at the end of the previous season, so from a storytelling perspective, the big rescue should have happened at the end of this season. Yes, that was the point to have a twist to subvert our expectations, but the real rescue still really should have been done even if it meant giving this season more than 10 episodes.

The OP was better each time seeing it, but I still think it should have been slightly longer. The ED is one of my least favorite so far, but it wasn't bad. The soundtrack seemed to reuse a bunch of older tracks and I don't remember many new tracks being introduced this season, which is unfortunate as it's one of my favorite things that I look forward to from this series.

I know that I am sounding pretty negative, but it's just proof that I hold this series to such a high standard that even when it's amazing I will still point out the aspects I didn't think were as amazing as they could have been.

Scissor Seven is still one of my favorite anime, and I can't wait to rewatch this season when it releases on Netflix and to watch the next season (or movie?) whenever it comes out.

aaaagh i love this series but its main problem of such a short runtime is so prevalent… 20 minute episode finale was great, but there are so many subplots that every season feels like it progresses less.

anyway, really liked the balance of comedy and action, of course with great animation as usual. after every battle, i have to rewind and appreciate the choreography or stylistic choices.

the puzzle motif i feel is a bit overused for how exclusive to this season it is, but does make that final episode “piece stuff together the way you want” moment feel impactful.

the op definitely grew on me, but season 3’s is just special. it was quite a treat how many different endings we got, and some of the fight ost in particular slapped.

sooo movie or season 6 first?
we're connected by the black thread of fate, after all

Seven dressing up as Thirteen at the beginning was very cute haha.

Loved the Seven vs Nine fight, using the demon sword sheath to take back the sword and applying techniques he learned from other people in this fight. Gonna go back to watch it again.

Hope we can get the next season super soon.
