Loved it. I feel like you’re trying to take this too seriously. Not saying that as an insult, there are many series’ where the story itself tends to take itself very serious. This manga reminds me of Spy x Family. There are serious stakes at times but it’s very comical and goofy at other times. You’re looking at it from a very narrow lens, just turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is!

true, and I'm enjoying it too, but spy family set up a more long-running serious plot with stakes, and those stakes play into the comedy. ichi, on the other hand, just has to prove himself and hunt down terrorist magiks. It does feel kind of disconnected in a way as our boy just kind of accepted being forced there. I get hes quirky, but you would think he would be a little jaded. I think the big criticism here isn't that he's taking a lighthearted story uber seriously it's that even basic comedy has better character motivation and stakes. after all, why shouldn't you take a comedy seriously? You are putting time into read it after all. Especially for a Shonen fantasy manga that usually has the expectation of fighting a central villain for something. I, on the other hand, do hope for tense things happen because that usually makes the comedy beats funnier.

@rinnmakesmusic I surely don't remember that at all. Spy x Family had a great start imo, I never had these feeling about it being canned like I do with this series. Art can only carry it so far.

Spy x Family is one of my favorite ongoing series. These aren't in the same league if you ask me. We will, I'm hoping for better chapters to come in the near future.

The characters aren't charismatic and the lack of plot is dragging it down for me. Comparing it to Spy x Family that has remarkable characters and focused plot, is a bad choice of stories to compare it to.

I am not even really trying to argue with you as it was YOU who came to MY post and tried to tell me my opinion was wrong. You try to change it by saying that Spy x Family was in a similar spot 10 chapters in which it was not. Why not defend the series rather than bring another one into the discussion? That is quite telling and reinforces what I am saying is lacking with Ichi.

The characters are flat and weak, with little interesting dynamics between them. The humor and jokes don't hit, the plot is very standard shonen fare. It is not hitting the same tone it presented in its opening chapter. Talk to me about these things and we have a discussion, besides that, you have just been arguing that my opinion is too harsh and wrong this early. Ichi just needs to be better imo.
