Do you think the pacing is too fast?

I’ve been seeing people say that the pacing feels rushed, but I honestly haven’t gotten that impression at all. This is coming from someone who read the manga, and the pacing feels fine to me. I honestly love how they ordered the sequence of events here. I was thinking they would do it in chronological order same way as the manga, but instead they have each chapter cut up and intertwined with each other throughout. In the manga it feels like each chapter is its own isolated incident, but in the anime it feels like everything is spiraling out of control all at once.

I feel things were going to be cut regardless no matter how they adapted it since we’re only given 4 episodes. The manga’s story structure only really works in manga since each chapter has an episodic feel to it. The main story in the manga is only really the first couple of chapters and the last couple of chapters. Everything else in between is kinda just this monster of the week formula. If they were to translate that formula to the anime, then episodes 1 and 4 would contain the main story while episodes 2 and 3 would contain the other mini stories with no transitions between them and that structure would honestly feel really weird in TV format.

The manga had only 19 chapters so what do you expect? If all the remaining episode have extended length then I think the adaptation will be just fine. I enjoyed the first episode quite a lot. Easy 8/10 if they can keep up the quality and momentum onwards

The rhythm they chose for the anime is perfect for a tv series, it was so strong that your heart was pumping hard, and it’s perfect for new viewers that go in completely blind

More like a 9/10 and serious contender in a hypothetical real and unbiased “anime of the year award”, alongside, till now, Dead Dead Demons and Kingdom Season 4

19 chapters, 4 episodes, that's like almost 5 chapters per episode. that is rushed, isn't it ?

All those who find the pacing /Cuts just fine, idk what to say.
They were faithful to the source Material, sadly so much faithful that the creativity of bringing a Still image to Motion kinda Lacked here.I felt something was missing, something was weird.......and then when my sister told me, hey how is Kirie with Shuichi in one scene, and within a few mins with her dad, again at school? Again at Hospital?? at the same time.....I told her to imagine this as a Day-Night difference, just imagine events taking place in different days, then they drop The Snail,Azami's obsession and Mom's mental Breakdown all within a few mins, switching continuosly inbetween....and How is Kirie switching places so soon? Question still remains, maybe this was a Bad idea to Jump Inbetween Stories.
Ito Wrote ✍️ the story in a linear way,a continuous timeline, leaving no plot holes. But the anime lacks there. Should've been more creative and taken care in editing (if it's the case)/pacing while jumping between events.

I'm still giving it an 8/10 for now.....yet to watch the rest, but.....yea this is a VERY BIG FLAW of this adaptation. It wasn't smooth.

@thischeetobussin nope. In the Manga you're reading still images. So, it depends upon ur own pace of reading because there wasn't much time gaps inbetween the incidents. But for a motion picture, it's the directors job to create a Perfect Transition between each panel/chapters, some panels of their own creativity, to create a perfect transition and smooth experience. This feels like a Cut & paste. Sadly.

@Mdraj6996 it has only 19.chapters, but each chapters has it's own length.
The 19chapters doesn't take place in a single day or so......19 chapters is a lot. And To create a smooth experience, they should've added some cutscene transition from story to story/panels.
Regarding th length of the episode, barely 2 chapters fit in,with proper narration. Some chapters are lengthy.

why was then the 1st episode around 20 minutes? if they wanted, they could've made a 1 hour pilot episode. also, mal shows the episode runtime to be 23 minutes. there's no information whatsoever that other 3 episodes will have a longer runtime.

I read the manga a few years ago so my memories may be rusty, but I didn't feel the manga was fast paced. Maybe it feels this way in the animation form? Because the episode definitely felt faster from a subjective point of view. It wasn't affecting my experience though.

I do think the first episode feels a bit bloated with how much they put it, but I still had a lot of fun with it.

@AMAN2410 I still don't think they'll do all the chapters. Based on this episode, I'm guessing they'll have about 12 chapters or so.

Also, maybe a hot take, I think the pacing is irrelevant. Even the manga never built much emotion either. It's about the atmosphere, the horror, the memorable moments.

Wow, "No" is actually winning the poll. After the initial response I saw in the episode 1 discussion thread, I'm surprised.

Personally, I found the fast-pacing really noticeable in my first viewing. Between the pace and the way the events of different chapters were sewn together, they really made it blaze by in my opinion. In my shoes I would have let it breathe a little more I think, but overall it's still a really enjoyable adaptation so far, IMO. (A blind reacter I follow, who never even touched horror anime before, was pretty blown away too.)

I think the biggest missed opportunity was a scene they skipped where the mom threw out the dad's spiral collection and he flipped out. Like I realize it wasn't a vital scene and his obsession was already well-established, but seeing the family (or at least the mother) try and do something about his issues before looking into having him admitted the night they found him would have been a pretty decent middle-step. But, overall, if it keeps with the quality it has, this really feels like a nitpick of mine.

@AMAN2410 actually I looked through earlier discussions, and we do seem to have confirmation that each episode will increase in length

i don't think it was rushed. i mean, if having more than one story in a single episode is rushed, then maybe it is. but they managed to adapt it perfectly, without any significant cuts in the stories completed in the episode one

To be fair barely anything happened in episode 1. I've never read the manga, but from what I've seen of the anime, it would be pretty boring if they stretched the content thin over multiple episodes.

the original manga was formatted in a way where there were a bunch of random mini-stories that happened one after eachother, with very little cohesion outside of their respective "spiral" theme. so, i thought the first episodes decision to blend these stories together worked really well! it made for a more smooth viewing experience.

The fast pacing some how makes it even more intense. You don't really get time to digest one fucked up scene before the next one comes straight at you. I liked it.

@Kanturu_ The manga feels like a slow burn but the anime feels like complete chaos. It’s interesting to see two different vibes of the same story.

i believe the pacing is normal, the studio is trying to connect each small chapters into a continuous story. some may think its fast but to me its normal. remember, they are trying to fit all chapters into 4 episodes.

the pacing is balanced not fast at all. it's just there going with a chronological time order. 1st episode is a prologue.

I haven’t read the manga, so I'm speaking from an anime-only perspective. For me, the pacing really is fast—not too bad, but it should’ve been slower. One example of it being rushed is how Kurotani just meets Shuichi, and moments later, she’s obsessed. That felt very abrupt to me.

it is rushed; if you don't try to change your own perspective on how to watch it
