I am an Oushi defender and I agree with alot of your points, especially in regards that Itsuomi is just too perfect to the point it makes him boring. I'd have liked him more if we'd seen him actually struggle to pick up sign language and the unique misunderstandings it could have created instead of them being the "perfect" couple right from the get go.

It annoys me that people will see scenes like Oushi telling Yuki she shouldn't meet guys alone at night, and see it as him trying to be controlling when really that's advice anyone should follow. Don't meet people you just met in the middle of the night. Just bc its Itsuomi and we're expected to already know he's a good guy, Oushi is in the wrong according to the fans.

I love Oushi for his flaws and room for growth when it comes to being more honest with his feelings to others. It got to the point I was skipping the date scenes between the main couple and was more invested in Oushi's personal struggles. He's just so much more interesting of a character to the point reading the manga I started skipping the main couple just to read the Oushi scenes

I'm usually in "childhood friend" team. Too much, in fact...

But.. Oushi never made an effort to understand what his friend wanted. If he cared, he should have taken care of it, not just disagreed with her decision to go to college and that's it.
We're not talking about teenagers, they're already adults. He should have taken action there... and he didn't.

It's not that I like Itsuomi very much, but it's the normal behavior of a person of that age when wanting to start a relationship.

mhm and I think that's the justification the show basically gives for why he isn't the lead haha. it's pretty acknowledged that he didn't take the right steps and do the best things.

but that's also why we see him trying to change, be nicer, do better. which is much more interesting than already being perfect ☆

Yes, and improving as a person is what is shown about his character and why he is there in the series.

I personally would have liked to see more of his relationship with his other friend who was also apparently interested in him for a long time, to give a better closure to that part of the story.

Ngl...Despite Me Liking Itsuo x Yuki Quite A Bit...I Would've Loved It If She Actually Went With Oushi Ur Oushi Points Are All Valid, Felt Quite Bad For The Guy

Is Oushi more interesting? Maybe. But is he likable? Nope.

Itsuomi wins.

I agree Itsuomi displays some (vaguely) disturbing tendencies, but Oushi does, too. That just puts them on equal footing. Why are Oushi's weaknesses more deserving of sympathy, but not Itsuomi's?

Oushi just hasn't shown a single side of him that made me root for him. Every single thing he's done has made him look petulant, belittling of others, uncommunicative, indecisive, self-defeating and simply incapable of happiness.

I did grow to understand and like him more later in the season, but only thanks to Itsuomi's efforts to basically force him out of his shell. Which made me like Itsuomi more, as a matter of fact.

I can definitely see that Oushi will become a better character in later seasons, but as it stands now, he basically has no redeeming qualities.

I 100% agree with you. NGL I liked the show as much i did just because of oushi.
Without him this would have been a regular and generic ass romance story. Oushi made the dynamic much more interesting.
And all these simps just want to believe that such a perfect angel really exists😂😂
Like grow tf up😂😂
Everything is not a fairytale and whoever disagrees with this is just itsuomi simp(Mostly girls) cause they dream for a guy like that which they will never get😂

This is the double edged sword of recommending this anime to A Silent Voice enjoyers. The thing is, the childhood bully got redeemed in A Silent Voice and we follow his growth. This anime is different. Yes, Oushi is learning and growing. However, he isn't the priority. Which I agree with. Guys, this is a story centered around Yuki. Why do we care for Oushi? And I don't mean as a character, because he serves a purpose. I mean, why do we care about his feelings more than Yuki's?

This is a fluffy romance story about a deaf girl opening up her world and wanting to get out of the bubble that she's been put in. Itsuomi is the perfect guy to get her out since he speaks multiple languages and he regularly travels. This makes him the perfect guy since he picks up languages fast, and he's emotionally mature and honest with Yuki. This is what she needs, and it's a beautiful story for that. The last thing Yuki needs is an ableist tsundere that's going to stagnate her growth.

Once again, this story is centered around Yuki, not Oushi. If you want an Oushi love story, read A Silent Voice. If you actually care about Yuki, the protagonist with a hearing disability that wants to explore the world, then read the manga after you finish the anime.
