Frieren was a fantastic NICHE manga. Then the show came along and took what it did and made that a side plot and added in mainstream elements to make it appeal to a modern and young audience. Excellent for ratings, not so good for it’s community or the show itself
Don’t get me wrong it’s a pretty good show but there’s just better ones out there

The fandom for many series can be vitriol, but at least it’s not the CSM, MHA, and Frieren levels of obnoxiousness.

Ok I don't feel that strongly about Frieren. But you just made up a problem. What are you on about? The reason people enjoyed Frieren that much was because it was so refreshing. The mage exam was too long and focused on stuff that does not interest me about Frieren, but that’s long even in the manga.

Yes but how does an anime like this reach 9.4 rating on mal when the second highest was 9.09 and that’s FMA Brotherhood. The ratings for this anime are just absurdly high and it receives way more praise than is worthy. Again it’s not bad but don’t watch it just for the high ratings

Yes ofc. Ratings don't make sense. to return to the original convo. What I'm saying is that fandom isn't a reason to not watch a show, because it also isn't a reason to watch a show.

You watch what you are interested in and not watching something because the fandom is weird is just dumb, yes you might dislike the show. So what? You were interested, found out it isn’t for you and you can move on.
