It’s very good, but for me Ore Monogatari, Kaguya-sama, and Kimi no Todoke take the cake, with nods to Spice and Wolf and Dress-up Darling in the next tier along with it

when I think of big 3 in romance which got hype would be
1 love is war
as it ranked 1st on mal for sometime ..

2 horimiya
as it got popular within my frd zone ...

3 idk .clannad/ fruit basket (may be maid sama or toradora even say I love you my little monster or angel spoils me ,galxy next .... downstairs has some wholesome moments ) .......

my fav would be
1.say I love u .(as it was my 1 romance anime)
2.teen romantic.( grate character development)
3 love is war.( it's really fun to watch)

my 3 are
1. CLANNAD/CLANNAD after story. no other romance does what clannad did or goes where clannad went. its everything ive ever wanted out of the genre and i firmly doubt any series will surpass it for me. and it only gets better the older i get.

2. love chunibyo and other delusions. very cute and fun. falls a little short in the romance but makes up for it with how enjoyable everything else is.

3. toradora. i understand why people dont like this one as it has a bit of a slow start not only with the story but with characters personalities at the beginning can be jarring as well however it grows on you very well. i enjoy the drama and how intense all the emotions are portrayed.

my honorable mention is the 2019 fruits basket. while the romance took awhile to blossom the beautiful story mirrored with the beautiful animation make you enjoy the ride all the same. its so wholesome and unique and while not as healing as clannad imo still strums the heartstrings.

i enjoyed both seasons of horimiya but the romance aspect of the series is pretty lacking imo. its more of a comedy/slice of life. the 2nd season especially.

For me, yes, it CAN be part of the top 3 best romance anime ever made overall. But I'm pretty sure most of people will think that this top 3 had already been take by animes from the 2000's, like Toradora and Fruits Basket.

But it is in my top 3, which are (I'm thinking about it now, so it's probably not my real top 3 since I'm gonna forget someone that deserves more to be here than other):

1 - Horimiya
2 - Kaguya-sama
3 - Yesterday wo Utatte (I really like this one, don't judge me :D)

I would say from the top of my mind, love is war, fruits baskets and probably nana. As hm i can say oregairu, your lie in april, dangers in my heart, the romance in yona of the dawn, the fragrant flower blooms with dignity plus there are a lot of series who show romance but wouldnt necessarily be associated as romances like for example i like steins gate sprinkle of romances as well as the monogatari series, as well as kono oto tomare. I consider all of this titles better than horimiya.

If you think horimiya is the best romance, thats fine, everyone has their own opinion, im just a random guy here :)

Depends on what shows you mean by that. The romance anime market is big enough to not just name the particularly hyped or just highly rated shows of the last couple of years. Especially Kaguya, considering Aka himself found it funny how many people considered his sarcastic parody of the genre to be a particular example of the genre itself.

I feel like Nisekoi is pretty under-appreciated mostly because of where they ended the adaptation but it didn’t bother me too much. I just finished the manga recently and read the epilogue chapter that came out a bit later and loved it

@RegexShinobi I wouldn't say that Nisekoi has ever been underestimated by anyone. This show has become its own meme in several ways, from being a label for any show about fake relationships to being a poster for any "fans rooting for someone other than the main character" show.
