This felt like I was watching perfect blue for the first time again.

It's obviously a completely different story, but THIS IS More satoshi kon than anything else I have seen. (except for actual satoshi kon movies of course).

I would never imagine in a million years that a MANGA of all things would be the closest thing I will see to his work.

Imma have to read fire punch too. this shit was actually goated.

@Bolona07 I actually think it would make WAY more sense for this to be a movie in the first place.

what baffles me is how it can even functions in manga format. like, this should not work. by all measure this is a story made for the screen, but somehow it just works.

if anything this should be one of the easiest stories to adapt. the man has already somehow made a movie inside a manga, all they need to do is copy and paste it.

Fujimoto makes stuff like this work partially due to his understanding of film. He uses repeated panels to replicate the effect of a continuous shot, then hits you in the face with a full page illustration. We see events through the lens of a camera, then experience a genuine moment of emotion, unclouded by that limited perspective. That replicates the feeling of a great movie, those moments of immersion where everything aside from emotion falls away.

Making that work is an incredible achievement, only Fujimoto could pull it off.

There’s a power to how Sayonara Eri explores cinema from a different medium, but everything it does can be replicated by established cinematic techniques. It can be a great movie, I hope it will be eventually.

I hope you won't get disappointed. This story was great and Fire Punch had great premise and worldbuilding but then it just all crumpled till very strange end
