I really liked this one. Though the beginning seemed like another episodic one-off, this time with a very moody Sheyenne, it actually turned out really interesting.

There was a total inversion of gender norms in how Cannon (Kanon) attacked the doctor's orphanage, a woman violently pursuing a man (not that either is good). We often see the violent male brigand kidnapping the princess or peasant lady, so this was an interesting turn of events. She was also definitely out there but not outwardly depicted as stereotypically "crazy". The show actually has some nuance where the viewer has to figure things out on their own, as has been seen a few times over the series, despite its often zany atmosphere. This episode also flipped the gender norm of the underage girl being ogled by an older man, this time between Sheyenne and Cannon. I actually think that Wild Arms as a game series has done this kind of thing often as well, but it's not done in a very obvious, on-the-nose way.

The colors have also gotten way more saturated over the series, and the general art quality has gone up as well. The first few episodes were a bit light-looking, but now it looks way better and more of what I expect from Wild Arms.

Now there were still some weird things. Why is Kanon from Wild Arms 2 in this as this bandit lady? This is absolutely the weirdest out-of-place insert character yet. I realized it was her based on the name and the way her hair covered her eye. She also has a similar tough rogue-ish thing going on, but otherwise, they are very different characters. I really don't understand why the creators of this series chose to do this with these characters like Valeria, Zed, Kanon, and Judeca. Perhaps there were licensing/rights issues with Sony? A second weird point is that a character says someone is chiseled like a Greek god. Does this mean that the characters are from Earth (like another big series that won't be named here for spoilers). Is this supposed to indicate something, or is it just a weird slip? Also, why was Sheyenne's hair described as black when it's very clearly blue (like Rudy and Ashley from the games before this)? That doesn't really matter that much, but it was still weird.

Anyway, the ending was so classic - whistful and nostalgic and sad. I really liked that about the episode too. This episode was able to create a compelling narrative in a single go, while also touching upon the greater plot. That's great, and it really should have happened more throughout the series.
