Pretty decent first episode. in the first half, it shows the firefighters in action, occasional bit of information about the codes, terms and equipment in use.

the second half is a flashback, introducing some of the characters and explaining the Japanese firefighter special rescue technique training course.

It's interesting, since it dives into aspects of Firefighting and the many various procedures and equipment and such. I'd recommend it if you're into informative and educational while having action type shows.

It's on my list! Actually really looking forward to this one because I think it's going to be a sleeper hit. I was just trying to catch up on everything from this past week and with Freiren and Ragna Crimson just releasing as well as new Bleach, its been hectic trying to fit everything in. Probably putting this on tonight or tomorrow, but definitely aiming to get to it before the weekend ends.

yeahh, fortunately most seasons of anime only have between 10 to 15 that interest me and I usually drop 5 and save some for later! I work full time, so I also have to be picky, but I do look into all the hidden gems. For instance one of my favorite series that hardly anyone has heard of because its a Donghua and isn't mainstream is Link Click. thats my only 10/10 on MAL. I highly recommend it if you're into an amazing plot line, great story telling, suspense, mystery, Thriller shows.

That's sweet that you watch dubs with your daughter! I usually watch stuff seasonally Subbed, but if its been out and has a Dub and I'm late to it, I'll usually pick Dub so that I can multitask while watching (I work from home so that plays a big factor) Glad to have made a new friend so we can see what one another is watching and maybe inspire one another to check something out that we might not have otherwise! This fall season is really surprising me so far, and I thought it was going to be a slow season where I just got to catch up on shows that have been on my watchlist forever, but its not looking that way πŸ˜‚ Curious what 5 shows have you most excited this fall?

yeah exactly like fantasy football except better! lol i have alot of fun doing it..

I also watch sub seasonally but i definitely have a couple dubs that i like to have on in the background or to use so i can fall asleep so my brain doesn't have to think.. their are a few i have tried in dub and i just couldn't do it though because of translations or if they try to insert some kind of agenda into the dub version..

I always try to slim down my watch list but for some reason or another it just gets longer and longer no matter how many i watch!

hmm top 5 huh.. thats a hard one. ive picked certain anime on my FAL team just because i know they will get points even if im not interested in them lol
im excited for another season of ancient magus bride
but as for new series besides this firefighter anime
i guess:
Kingdom of ruin, Shy,
16 bit sensation, Ragna Crimson (i thought the 1st ep was pretty good) Apothecary diaries, Frieren (which makes 6 but i couldnt not put that one lol) i usually like fantasy/suspense type anime..

what about you? for sure im down to exchange anime and thoughts ect, thats cool you work from home, my daughter homeschools so most of my time ends up going to her

@Memore

A complaint I saw for episode 2 is that it begins with 5 minutes worth of recap. Personally, I think the score is "low" because it's a very grounded series, and the majority of the first 2 episodes has been training.

@Eprico That may be true, but with so few watchers, where else can you really ask? I think this is the place for such questions, and ya just got to hope for honest criticism and not purely biased responses.

Which btw, I'm just waiting for more eps and (hopefully) the average score to hit over 7.0/10 before I actually give it a proper chance. It's one of my FAL picks, though, so I believe in it.

I think the score might be low cause it is a bit special - not "your usual shounen". Therefore not appealing to everyone. Classic shounen fans might more look for other stuff with different types of "action" (combat/fighting). Where the people that don't like shounen ... might fear that the setting (that does not seem that uninteresting) might feel weird with the feeling of a shounen added to it.

Personally I wanted to give it a try - I am not really that much into shounen. But the firefighting seemed interesting. And different. First episode showed big weaknesses though - that was a bit too over the top and the Daigo guy felt annoying. Switching the point of view to the other guy and going back to training seemed like a good idea to me though. And the girl seemed interesting.

Now that I finally have watched episodes 2-4 (have been busy with other stuff lately and the other anime that seemed more interesting on episode 1 were first on my list to catch up and this one was last here) I can say that I started to like it a bit more. Episode 2 bit of a weakness. (The other male main acting a bit too competitive but then switching to teamwork actually - caring about the peopele that need to get rescued.) Episode 3 was pretty good. 4 as well - at the ending a bit of a "shounen moment" though lol. But we'll see. So far the preview at the end of the episode is doing a good job in making me looking forward to the next episode.

Holy hell. This is the dumbest flex reply I've read in this site in all of my years, so congratz I guess.

For starters you name idol shows as if those are the most common and watched shows when in reality outside Japan are among the least watched. Most Idol shows are about the road to success in an already oversaturated line of work, yes that's also a nOrMaL rEaL lIfE sErIeS on a real subculture from Japan.

Secondly, adding a recap on the second episode it's just condescending to your audience. You don't think they are smart enough to remember what happend last week? Specially when the premiere was pretty lukewarm in terms of quality content (half of it was boring mansplaining infodumps in the training segment).

The score is low because of several things. Three of these are:

The first few episodes are sort of hard to sit through
first few minutes of each episode is wasted recapping essentially fuck all and it takes ages to go through so theres no reason not to skip the first few
The show needlessly drags out scenes for 'dramatic effect' with episode 5 being the worst for this as they take AGES to do stuff

I can watch it and it has stuff that keeps me interested but the above points make me actively skip through the show which indicates it has poor directing. In episode 5 as well they REALLY overuse the same shot. Now this technique is common in anime and is fair but when combined with the above stuff and the context (cutting through a rebar which flicks around how far through cutting Toake is) it becomes just annoying to wait through.

It rightfully has a low score for these reason not because 'muh grounded' its because in reality, its just kind of there and the directing is shit. If it was any later on a Saturday for most of the world itd get even more actively mogged and put aside for the other 472383929292 shows that air today.

The point about the recap is strange because one piece is mostly recap as well but that doesn’t affect its score. I just fast forward through the recaps, and it’s fine. The time it took for things to happen in episode 5 was closer to real than not. It didn’t feel dragged out at all, to me. I think people are just expecting constant non stop action and those people should go watch demon slayer or something.

@tetraflu0ride Youre implying I care about one piss, and that doesnt excuse the point that for a seasonal show that doesnt have the filler allowance that one piss has so it shouldnt be wasting time. In episode 5 theres loads of LOOOOOOONg pauses for no real reason at all. They go on that long they lose any dramatic effect from such a pause if intentional. People arent expecting action, they just want stuff to happen (stuff happening != action per say). When you have basically NOTHING happening for no justifiable reason there is no justification to stop me skipping a few seconds. I lose nothing by doing this.

In that episode Toake goes in, tries to cut at one angle, changes his mind and tries a different angle. This take like 16 bloody minutes for NO REASON when it can be done in half the time. The part where the building is collpasing near the end of the episode is actual speed stuff should be going at. Its not dragged out, its not overly quick, and if you really want the 'grounded' feel it feels more an actual pace. Toake cutting through one rebar with repeated shots for 4+ (I cant even remember its that time consuming) minutes is niether interesting as he takes too long, or pleasing to look at as its the same repeated shots that also butcher any consistency with how far through the bar he is. Its padded out for no reason. Id understand if it was him cutting and it using that time to go into the other characters then popping back to him near the end of the cut. Nope, he basically only cuts 5% for 90% of the screentime and rushes through the rest in the last 30 seconds. It stinks of poor directing as they evidentally overly padded out this scene. The episode could literally have had another 4-8 minutes on other stuff/next 'arc' stuff.

@GreenDLight, what men? It is about firefighters and their hard work saving people.

Just finished 3 eps and it is pretty average show imo.
Did not particular like nor characters neither animation quality, and the music is really disturbing.

I'm not particularly into all this firefighting stuff and sadly the way story unfolds does not make it more interesting.

So 5/10 at it's best.

But for someone it might be worth to watch :)

@nick_el_son, yes, sadly it is not for you as you don't understand the heavy work of firefighters.

@Memore Watch out guys, we got salty captain gatekeeper and his timeless "it's not for u" phrase, dissing anyone that doesn't find his own personal water-piss dollar anime as some sort of immaculate piece of entertainment filled with recaps for the dumb-dumbs that need to be spoon fed.

Hope you're getting a huge paycheck by the anime comittee defending such a masterpiece from all these uncultured swine that can't appreciate such a great piece of fiction. /s
