No one has made a discussion of this episode yet so I will do it first :)

That was a relief that Aono's mother was okay atleast. Everyone came to visit Aono and he made up with Saeki. Tbh I did not like how the episode was adapted. The weird tension in all of the scenes just made it cringe and the reaction from most of the guys when Aono said something at all was unnecessary. Overrall a mid episode.

The main characters finally had some sort of bonding, thanks to Sekine for pulling them in all together (curious what's up with her mom as well).

It's also becoming more obvious that Saeki might really be Aono's half-brother (especially since the dad travels a lot and probably had some side dishes along the way). Or the story might even throw the curveball and Sekine might be his half-sister for all we know.

Anyway, this episode used a lot of stretching. Lots of moments where there were no animations at all, and just a stationary frame to show a moment of awkward silence and staring off the distance or corner. They didn't even insert anything from the ensemble practice that could've shown the characters having troubles focusing and that would've helped fill in several seconds or minutes of the show. Looking forward to the next episode about what Saeki will reveal.

i had a feeling saeki was going to show back up at aono's house. i wonder what the thing he has to tell aono is though. obviously it's about aono's dad based on the preview, but what exactly is it? does he know his dad? he didn't seem surprised to know his dad was a pro violinist like everyone else did, so he must've known beforehand.

and this doesn't really have to do with the episode, but can i just say i really don't like haru? idk what it is about her, i just cannot stand her. i adore all the other characters, but when she's in a scene i just get so annoyed, idk.

I did really like how Aono and the other characters bonded more this episode, glad Aono's mother was fine. Very little music playing this episode obviously, and I think it worked out alright. We're probably in for some interesting reveals around Aono's family soon I would think.

I was going to make it yesterday but then noticed I had nothing good to say about this episode.

Painfully slow and so cringy... Had to pause like 3 times.
Aono's voice actor makes some really weird noises. I don't like him at all.

Aono is such a lame excuse for a human being. Dude won't eat because his mummy won't cook for him.
What a fucking useless cunt and a huge pussy.

Hated it.
Lowered the score to 7/10

Best episode in a LONG time tbh. I know it’s a musical anime and the violin stuff is important, but these are high school kids dealing with a lot of stuff. It’s nice to get an episode which focuses on the HUMAN side as opposed to just music competitions.

Genuinely got emotional when everyone came over to see Aono. When my dad died of prostate cancer, 3 months later my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and she did her treatment at the mayo clinic so I was often alone at home or with just my brother or sister. I definitely relate to the feeling of having a parent in hospital and just feeling alone and sad like aono, so seeing people reach out to him to let him know they care was so beautiful.

Hate that they left us on a cliffhanger tho

I thought he was going to share the story with akine only but I'm glad it was with all of them including saeki.

Not surprises that saeki has a connection with aono's father, I doubt saeki is his child but maybe he was saeki's mentor.

It's the Summer, though not the festival, and Akine could not reach Aono, though the reason is his ailing mother.

Everyone is trying to reach Aono but to no avail, though that's not becoming a behaviour for him, and Ayukawa fills that gap for them that his mother is in hospital. Obviously, everyone's worry amped up after hearing the devastating news, though Akine feels the sense of loss the hardest because she can attest to his mother being like hers, and that drags the clique over to his house. It's awkward for everyone, though Aono really was desperate because he didn't eat anything, being overly concerned for his mother who got hospitalized for overwork. This unfortunately, started from the time when Aono was living with his mother, alone together.

Aono deciding to finally let the truth be out about his father, which he laments being one and the same of his traits that he could not focus on her more. Even more, the violin was the reason for the rift between him and his father, though Saeki was relieved that he thought that he made Aono angry over something. With the cat out of the bag, everyone sympathizes with Aono about his true feeings, of which this is the first time he's sharing it to the clique. Everyone goes home in total relief, though Aono has to contend with the household duties alone, though that front door was where the trauma all started for him.

Aono's ex-father may have destroyed their family, but Saeki coming back...he's got something to tell him. Ominous...

Ofc his friends are worried and they visited him at home. Good thing he finally shared stuff about him with them. Now what does Saeki has to say?

It's interesting how much presence Aono's dad has in the story, considering he's actually never appeared in it. Everything has either been flashback or just Aono thinking about him. While I knew this was the case each time we've seen him show up on screen, for some reason it came into sharp focus for me this episode how he's not actually been around at all for the whole season so far.
