(Yeah, my response for this forum is very late. I decided to finally do it now before I watch the next episode this weekend.)
This has got to be the funniest episode of this anime so far. Definitely a nice change of mood, especially with how the previous episode went (except when the troll moment happened, lol.)
Togame was WILD in this episode. She wanted to see the large dingus that Shichika had while they were both in the hot spring!! Well, that's one reason. I'll mention the other reasons during my episode discussion.
At the hot spring, Shichika mentions how he's found new ways of love for Togame, though she doesn't see it at all. Well, she ain't utterly wrong since back at their place to stay, Togame wears a nice new Yukata, and Shichika finds it normal... While at their place, Togame discusses how they'll obtain the armor (sword) a man named Azekura possesses. Hence, she plans some brutal ways to KILL him within the armor. (Quite brutal that Shichika himself gets shocked).
In the next scene, we see Togame getting herself a foot massage from the TALL Shichika and asking to have her head massaged from his feet... O_o
Sometime later, Azekura visits Shichika and Togame and challenges Shichika on a dual since he is now known as the new strongest swordsman. They negotiate to see what would happen if either one loses. If Shichika wins, he gets the armor sword; if he fails, Azekura takes Togame cause he apparently falls for her... Seeing how he prefers her instead of the swords they carry is quite funny since we see a similar situation in how Shichika suddenly falls for Togame, except it happens in an even more absurd way that Togame freaks out!!
In the morning, we see how Togame thinks about considering having Azekura as her new bodyguard. Shichika gets jealous that he decides to...
Afterward, they meet up with the leader of the Maniwa Corps...
... he requests that each corps member search different areas within Japan to search for Swords, and if any were to encounter them, they would attack. Togame went on with the idea and knew that Shichika would take them down if they were to meet up. The leader also warns that Hitei is beginning to make her move to search for swords. Togame gets worried about her sudden move, making me curious about her relationship with Hitei. Scratch that; in the beginning, we see her knowing what Togame and Shichika's whereabouts are, hearing how Sabi was defeated, and how the other four swords are now in their possession. It seems Hitei herself has someone keeping up with the news, and his identity is a mystery thus far. I am curious to see what kind of relationship they have, and I hope we get to see more about how that goes.
Oh yeah... the leader of the Maniwa corps finally tells Togame that she's been using the word 'Cheerio' incorrectly and that she should be using the word 'Chest' instead... this makes Togame freak out of embarrassment that she runs around the entire island of Satsuma without losing energy at all... Apparently, she gets tired quickly unless she makes an embarrassing mistake... dang! (Also, I found it interesting that the narrator decided to foreshadow this moment in the second episode. Such a random plot point to foreshadow that it's actually funny.)
We then see a flashback from Azekura showing him and his sister at a young age on a ship going on some travels at the seas. We see her sister hitting his chest while saying 'chest,' which is a funny detail to add to show the correct term to use while hitting someone, and then suddenly, they get attacked by pirates. The sister gets killed, and Azekura is the one kept alive to be their chore boy. The pirate ship has the armor that Azekura decides to wear once he gets older, and he kills off the entire pirate crew. We learn from the flashback that he gets reminded of her sister when he sees Togame... which, er, wait a second... O_o
The fight then comes. Togame tells him that he shouldn't kill off every person he meets since he should try to finish things off in a harmless way. The fight begins; Shichika attempts a strong move onto Azekura but fails! Then, the anime decides to make this moment in which Shichika feels as if it's all hopeless, that he isn't strong enough, and that he might as well submit to defeat. I like how the anime knows this is such a dumb cliche that it even zooms into his face in a derpy manner.

Obviously, Togame yells at him and tells him that he shouldn't give up easily if he genuinely loves her. Shichika gets motivated, and we see such an epic fight montage!!! The OST piece 'Bahasa Palus' plays in the background; the fight sequence had such epic shots, and he defeated Azekura while making an almost Shrek 2 reference!
The sequence gave me chills!
Shichika kept his word that he wouldn't him and instead left him to live but get healed at a hospital. Togame and Shichika two obtain the armor and head off on a ship that Azekura told them would lead to their next destination for the sixth sword... only for the narrator to tell us that it's gonna take them to the wrong place as payback for losing! :O
This episode was pretty straightforward with what happened. Still, it was nice to have an episode with a change of mood, simultaneously making it more comedic and epic, especially since the last one felt pretty dark. No Nanami at all, but this episode was still entertaining nonetheless! I also really liked how Shichika was able to develop in this episode by seeming more human instead of just a human object. He shows some emotion with how he really feels for Togame and how he won't easily give her up, as well as not finishing off a person and instead giving mercy to his opponent. I liked that! :)
According to the preview, the next episode seems to return to its more serious tone. (Maybe Nanami??? :3)
Within the ranking of the episode, I'd have it as 4 > 5 > 3 = 1 > 2
Can't wait to see how the two will react once they arrive in the wrong place...! |
