I mean, sure, this is an amazingly entertaining show, but until today there was something I couldn't quite place on why it was so interesting (for me anyway). And then I realised it. It's a harem show that doesn't focus on the harem focal point. Let me explain:

R+V: focuses on the harem focal point, Tsukune.
Ouran Host Club: focuses on the pseudo harem focal point (cos it's not a harem to begin with at least), Haruhi
Kampfer: focuses on the harem focal point, Natsuru

But B Gata focuses on Yamada, one of the girls in the harem who's going after the harem focal point, Kosuda, and shows how it's her that makes him have a harem (she encourages a girl otherwise to shy to go after him, her rival goes after him because she's going after him, etc.)

Am I the only one who thinks it's like this? Or has anyone else thought of this? And does anyone agree that this is an interesting way of telling a story?

I think that's an excellent comparison.

I didn't think of it that way while watching the series though since I was busy laughing at Yamada's antics.

They should do more of this type of genre-perversion to the the established harem genre which has become wirst-slashingly boring these past few years.

Good analysis.

I think it's a very interesting way to do it as well-I'm a girl, I found it by mistake, without ever knowing about it and then read the plot after watchingthe first episode, if I had read the plot first I would NEVER have touched it.
But I found it so amusing and liked the characters (For somke strange reason). I noticed what you said and since it was so different I kept watching. Despite the subject matter, I think it's a lottle gem. In a strange sort of way.

oh wow, I haven't though about it! but come to think about it...it really is true!
I think you right. Harem is nice but it's getting a bit old sometimes... a new point of view can make it way more interesting ^^

Hmm...like an indirect harem? I never really thought about it that way, but now that you mention it, you're absolutely right. Kosuda isn't your typical harem guy because he's way too damn shy, and not in the "I'm going to act innocent to your face but I'm really a closet pervert" type way, he's seriously just an awkward, inexperienced-in-love kind of guy, and that's one thing that makes this story refreshing, because no one else has really attempted it because the concept just sounds too boring, right?

But it's really Yamada who makes the whole thing work. I was originally attracted to this story because of her - I mean, an anime about some girl who wants to screw a lot of guys and just doesn't care? A far, far cry from the normal Nadeshiko or tsundere-type characters(though I saw her slipping into this category at times). I also wondered about the themes surrounding her and her friend, for instance, and I wondered what sort of messages they were trying to give by using this new sort of heroine.

It's been difficult to derive a conclusion, simply because I'm not used to doing character analysis, but...we have Yamada, we all know about her. It's not the fact that she wants to have sex that is discouraged, it's more the fact that the way she goes about it is wrong, because we see her friend who has a perfectly mature relationship with her boyfriend who regularly has sex. But she's the "good" one here - not the over-zealous yet virginal Yamada. Yamada on the other hand, only begins to make progress in getting what she wants when she starts to focus on one and only one person, who she begins having comparatively more serious thoughts about.

If you look at it this way, I think it is also a neat little commentary, especially when you compare Japanese and Western (influence by Catholicism, or Christianity, mostly) attitudes about the subject. But there is the possibility I'm trying to read too much into it - in the end, it IS just some raunchy ecchi show, right?XD

I do think that besides the seductive content, the storyline is what catches peoples's attention. Also, the indirect way of telling people how to fall in love. Yes, Yamada's way is outrageously entertaining, comical, and for some immoral- but the end is she kept on shrugging off Keiichi- there must be some deep reason behind that.

Plus, brewing a love story in a crazy mix as this is, one would be far too cynical to be bored. Or am I just a fan too hooked to the first 12 episodes? Haha eitherway I'd love to see what happens next.

i think that this is funny because its not an original harem.

for example, you dont have the "oops, i tripped on something... omg i landed in/on some girls untouchable body parts by accident" then gets smacked into oblivion

you also dont have that magical wind that blows by so you can get a panty shot, in hopes to be funny... then smacked into oblivion cuz he was there

even though the comedy is in its ecchiness, its somewhat different... its not forced or a lame excuse for fanservice

though some people didnt like it, i found the americanized subs funnier (i think fuck buddies is alot funnier than sex partners)
