Everyone made it back to North Ambria. I guess Lechter and the rest of the intelligence division don't need them. Though what I don't understand is that this seems like it was planned by Jayna? Did she intend for Marty to get captured? Did she coordinate this with Lechter, or just expected him to get captured? I really wanna know what's her endgame here so I'm looking forward to them explaining this.
I guess the anime is pretty much setting it in stone that not many knew about Rean's identity at this point. Makes you wonder how the noble from episode 5 knew. I guess he was just that well-connected. And the news are still not spreading like wildfire, I guess. The conversation between Rean and Elliot and Machias was nice.
I liked Lechter's conversation with Marty. He pretty much gave him the reality of the situation. Either become Empire territory the easy way, or the hard way. North Ambria will look like it wronged the empire. Burned an entire village tot he ground. And knowing what happens during the annexation, They might pin the blame of that on north ambria. Making even the people lose faith in their jaegers. Though I have to wonder what he will have Martyn do. He's just a soldier in the Northern Jaegers. It's not like he has a lot of influence, so I wonder what the goal here is.
The thing I hate the most about this episode is Jayna praising Glark by telling him about his past and his secret. God I hate this. Whenever an anime character says the word "Sasuga" to praise someone to their face, what usually follows is them graciously telling us, the audience, everything about that character. From their name, to their past, to their accomplishments. There's no end to the amount of exposition you can deliver with this shitty, unnatural as fuck dialogue. And if you wanna make it extra annoying, have a character who needs to hear those things to advance the plot be just within the area to hear all of it. Just like they do here. If I try to defend the show, I'd maybe say that Jayna intended for her to hear that. With nothing to back that up except the smile she had when she looked at the door, like "Yeah, she knew who was there" but this is me grasping at straws cause how the hell would she know that. And the fact that Lavi was just there doesn't seem to have been planned by Jayna either.
I know the animation isn't good, but the visual of Martin running while shooting with one hand and having a sword raised by the other is just too hilarious not to mention.
So, the child who shot Valestein must have been hired by Glark. I can't imagine how the hell a child would end up in the middle of the northern jaegers, and behind Valestein. He even passes by Glark while looking at him so it's pretty much confirmed. And I guess everyone who was there who could've seen him were in on it? There are other soldiers beside Glark, so none of them spoke up? If we were to believe what Glark is saying, this was planned between him and Vlad, yet Vlad seems surprised by the child's presence. And wouldn't people, especialy those who backed Vlad, question why would he have Valestien killed? And what was Valestien's position? Did he want war or peace? I imagine he would want to have the men he lead be united, so why the fuck would you kill the one man who both sides stand behind? All 3 of you bastards are leading the northern jaegers, all 3 of you want them united, and you're telling me the best way to go about doing this is to backstab one of you(The tactical genius btw) and have the other take the fall so everyone would rally behind the third? You can't fucking expect that the men standing behind Vlad to just be ok with backing the opposing faction's leader and goals just because their leader was a traitor. And surprise surprise, those men are now rallying behind Rogan. Guess they didn't see that coming while making this batshit insane plan. Speaking of Rogan, what the fuck, man? You knew all of this all this time and you didn't say a thing? If I was in that room I'd ask that question. And while Rogan doesn't understand why Vlad did what he did, he still calls him a hero, so it seems like he still respects him, so why was he acting like a dick to Lavi in the first episode going "You're the granddaughter of a traitor lmao".
And all of this happened in August of 1198
Either I'm missing something major and I'm making a fool of myself, which I'll gladly accept if that's the case. Or this anime is not making one tiny bit of sense.
One thing that I'm confused about is Lavi's (and by extension, Vlad's) status. Is she the grandchild of a hero, or a traitor? Rogan says her grandfather abandoned North Ambria in the first episode, and Glark just explained how he spread the rumor that Vlad backstabbed Valestein, and he didn't deny it. Yet everyone still calls him a hero, and calls her the grandchild of a hero. And Martin says that Erebonia could use her lineage as a trump card in the previous episode. So, which one is it? Would people like her, or hate her, based on her lineage?
And I like that the advice Glark tells her about using her status before others use her was said by Iseria in the previous episode. I guess she has more wisdom than she lets on.
And right after that Lavi just agrees to help Glark because he says he wants to pass on Vlad's will to her. Maybe think about this a little bit more Lavi?
One thing I'll praise is one of Rogans lines in the last episode where he says "I see you're still good with shifting the responsibility as ever" which has more meaning now with the context of this episode. It's not much, but as I said before, I'm grasping at straws here.
