It's way too early to make this sort of predictions, but yes, I also feel like that Ars no Kyojuu has the potential to become an outstanding TV series.
Let's see what direction the series will take in the following episode.

It kinda feels like if Ghibli tried to reimagine Neon Genesis Evangelion. I dunno, I'm intrigued. Let's just see where this is going. It could be THE dark horse of the season like Odd Taxi or Ousama Ranking, but it could also devolve into a bad pastiche of fantasy anime. Hard to tell for now, but we'll see where it goes. The next two episodes will be crucial. If we get the sense the story actually goes somewhere and the characters prove to be likeable, this could be big. But ultimately you never know until the anime ends, so I guess we'll truly know at the end of the season. In any case, I'll be watching closely.

That's almost what I thought when I watched the episode, it gave me some Ghibili vibes. That could be due to the combination of color palette, character design and sound design, but I'm not really sure about that.

We're a quarter in now, usually we get a good reading about how a show is going to be around this time. At the pacing this show is going you'd think it was a 20+ episode series.
