Hello!
I'm looking for exact timestamps of gory/disturbing/scary scenes in "Made in Abyss" (even if that means massive spoilers) or at least some censored version to watch online.

I've heard a ton of good things about this anime, but I'm very vulnerable to disturbing scenes (the most gory anime I watched was "Attack on Titan" which was pretty easy to watch thanks to screen going black or cropping actual gore from the screen - heavy atmosphere or implicated gore is absolutely fine with me, it's the visuals that I have problem with), so when I noticed the age rating on "Made in Abyss" page I started looking for timestamps so I can close my eyes or something like that when it's needed without having to miss out on a good quality story or if that's not possible I would be at least mentally prepared to what's going to happen in a second. The closest thing I found is parental guide on IMDB website, but it's only describing why, not when, it's gory. I was also looking for censored version, but only nudity related threads came up.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

PS: I'm really sorry if my English is hard to understand, but it's not my first language so I'm having troubles with making complex sentences :(

Just be prepared in every episode that a gore or something scene appears next second

And I think those thinks make made in abyss way better and darker so why ignoring or wishing they weren’t there
But I also understand if people can’t handle them

This show isn't like the worst thing on the planet by any means, but if you're asking for this you probably just shouldn't watch the show. It's quite a step up from AoT.

If you're not gonna watch those scenes, then I suggest you don't watch Made in Abyss at all. The disturbing scenes make up the entirety of the story. You won't understand crap if you skip em.

This is like trying to watch a comedy horror film and asking for when the horror scenes are. I mean it's pretty stupid thing to ask because no one is going to bother to make such an extensive effort to detail every gory scene.

A big part of the show is that the characters in it are going to go through hell. If you don’t like gore, this is probably a bad choice for you. Since you said that AOT is the most gore you have seen, then this is a big step up from that.

If you can’t handle the suffering and violence and gore then unfortunately you may have to pass on this one. There’s just too much and it gets even worse in s2. Skipping it means you’d loose more than half of the story. So yeah you’ll either try to handle these scenes or leave this anime for some time in the future (because I highly recommend you should not skip on such a masterpiece).

Skipping nudity in this show i can completely understand but the disturbing parts are what makes this show good so skipping those would be a real shame. I think i only remember the show having like 2 or 3 really disturbing moments at least in the first season

Unfortunately the gore doesn't appear for a second and that's it. The show demands you to watch the protagonists suffer because that's one of the recurring themes (the abyss will make you suffer and corrupt you)

An entire episode is dedicated to the incident of Riko, the MC, who had to endure incredible pain

If you can't handle this, you shouldn't watch this, but that's ok don't worry

I am the same as you, so when I watched this show, I was completely blindsided by the gory and dark moments. I believe the show starts getting very dark around episode 10-12

SPOILER

There is a part where one of the characters is about to cut off someone’s arm due to infection, and that moment is when I had to look away from the screen. There is a part where you see a girl get transformed into a horrible creature in an elevator in a very disgusting way, and there is a part where characters get sick and bleed a lot. Overall, you may just want to brace yourself when you get to episode 10-12. Sorry I don’t have exact time stamps, but you should be able to know when things get dark when events like this are building up to these moments

It’s a great show and I highly recommended it, but it’s not for the faint of heart. Hope I somewhat helped.

Mitty's transformation scene is probably one of the most disturbing scenes in any anime ever. I mean I don't even really watch Made in Abyss but I keep the scene as one of my favorite anime moments.

The gore and disturbing scenes are integral to the story and show. It’s not supplementary and doesn’t stand alone, they’re interwoven.

My brother is easily disturbed and so simply cannot watch this show which is a shame since it is one of my favourites. I’d either say watch it entirely or don’t. The gore isn’t surprising and you’ll know it’s coming so if you like to duck behind the covers then you probably could. But you’d miss most of it and unless you speak Japanese you’ll miss a lot of dialogue since it is prolonged. Not like someone suddenly getting there arm cut off but rather slowly tortured.

In my opinion the gore or nudity or anything like that isn’t the most disturbing thing. It’s just generally horrific in terms of what people in this world have to go through and the actions people take.

My honest opinions and advice will eventually just come down to this: try watching it as though you would anything else, if you can’t do this then stop and drop the show. The disturbing parts of the show, to my recollection, increase as it goes on so you’ll build into it and won’t be caught off guard by something truly horrifying from the onset. So just give it a go and take a few episodes at a time.

If you aren't good with gore that's probably gonna make your viewing experience even better bcs you'll get even more disturbed.

The movie that comes before the current season is going to be hard for you, but it’s necessary to the overall story.

I feel like I've seen this EXACT post word-for-word a while ago...

Anyways, if you're squeamish and can't handle mild gore, I don't think you should watch this show.

Don't bother. The horrific scenes are there because it portrays the terror the abyss makes our characters go through. Some scenes require the horrible violence to actually make the overall show more impactful. It won't hit you straight away. It takes its time to display the brutality of the show. It's very necessary to go through it, especially because of key story moments.

Being honest the show gets very disturbing in themes and content from episode 10 onwards. While I think this show is fantastic I do not think it is a series for you.

If looking at it in a drawing is less bad for you than in motion then maybe you could read the manga instead

Okay, this thread is a little weird, so let me just make it clear for you, I watched it very recently (haven't started s2, tho)

So, first of all, the atmosphere is pretty chill all the time, when good things happen and when bad things happen (surprisingly enough). I can guarantee that this isn't the most disturbing anime ever, like some people make it out to be. For example, I would say s1 only has like 2 disturbing moments (near the end, in the last 3/4 episodes), maybe 3 if you are extra sensitive (which may be your case, so I would consider it).

But it does have some moments that are like that, and they kinda are critical points in the story. Also, after watching the movie (continuation of s1), it seems to me that the story will continue down this path of mixing critical moments and disturbing moments. So take it as you will. I think you can enjoy the adventure of going deeper into the abyss without watching these moments. Just kinda knowing what happened is enough.

So, unfortunately, I didn't actually answer your question (timestamps). But if someone else is kind enough, the moments are these (by episode):

9 or 10: the whole arm sequence
12 or 13: Mitty's transformation
(extra): - operating on the arm to fix it
- the one eyed monster that imitates human sounds and is eating someone

I won't comment on the movie in detail, but there are like 5 concrete moments, so watch out.

Thanks for comming to my TED talk.

Triggering stuff

From S1
Ep 10
Ep 13

From the third movie
All of it

From S2
All of it

In short: don’t watch it if you can’t handle disturbing stuff.

If you’d like maybe I could try to grab some time stamps. It’s not as much as everyone is saying, but it still would include things that are important to the plot
