I dont think Rengoku is one of the best characters in shounen, but he will definitely be considered one simply because of the inpact he had in the brief period he was a main supporting character. The combination of the animation, the scenes, and the excellent job of the voice actor, not to mention KNY is a very popular anime, is really what rocketed Rengoku to success. Lets face it, the bittersweet ending for Rengoku is basically the only difference between him and Tengen's fight, not including the fact Tanjiro literally has to sit on the sidelines so he doesn't get to interfere with Rengoku's fight. Less screen time for Tanjiro equals more screen time for others, and thus more chances for them to enter our hearts. It was great Tengen got a happy ending (so far. I wouldnt be surprised if we find out later that Muzen puts out a hit for Tengen and he gets killed by one of the upper Moons, and then his head and possibly his wives' are rolled in front of Tanjiro when Tanjiro comes across the demon who did the deed. It would definitely fit), but because of it it didn't have as great of an impact. All I can remember is he decided they'd retire from the corps. Meanwhile, for Rengoku, we all remember as he saw his mother once again as he ascended to whatever awaits the deceased of the KNY world.

Rengoku is likable yes, but his train accident made it difficult for him to be one of the bests. That kungfu dude finished him a bit too fast.

All I can remember is "Umai" whenever I see Rengoku. One of the best from Demon Slayer? Maybe. But in no way he is one of the best of the whole anime verse.

I love Rengoku, and he is by far the best character in the show, and one of my favourite characters in anime, but objectively speaking, he isn't as well developed or deep as many other contestants. HxH alone has like 10 characters who far surpass Rengoku in terms of actual character. Still love the dude tho

I didn't get too attached to rengoku after watching the movie he was cool and strong but maybe because I already knew he was going to die I just saw him as an extra overpowered character and the only thing I liked about him were his family problems.
