This seems like a weird place to end it. Even moreso because the next episode is called Part 4: Conclusion.

An absolutely brutal cliffhanger to end the season on. A season which saw many things shift in the galaxy. Following each sides internal conflicts in the previous season, both Reinhard and Yang were left picking up the pieces on their respective sides. The former having much more success than the latter. Reinhard accomplished his biggest step yet. Kircheis told him to make the galaxy his and well he's halfway done. Taking over the Empire fairly easily and without challenge. Improving things there exponentially, giving the peoples freedoms they hadn't even known. Reinhard showing the good that can come from a gracious solitary ruler, having no figure whom can argue his authority Reinhard just has free reign to change what he pleases. Meanwhile Yang is dealing with the exact opposite. After saving his government from a hostile takeover he's reprimanded and looked down on. Its despicable how they treat there most valuable asset. Yang holds the whole Alliance together more than anyone there realizes. Despite that he's treated horrible by those in power. Whom themselves are being manipulated by Fezzan. The real masterminds and schemers controlling how both sides have to operate, their money dealings so vitally tied to both sides economies. Fezzan holds the most chips at the table at the very least. Leading to the end of the season with the big fortress battle. Not going the Empire way as we leave off with the cliffhanger. Yang returning after his subordinates held down the fortress keeping the invading Empire back. The empire going to last ditch efforts of crashing the fortress into each other. Have to wait to see how that goes for them next season later this year!

I still have my fingers crossed for an episode 13 for the conclusion.
What I liked most in this episode, and maybe season in general, was how it showed that while Yang lacks some of Reinhard's strengths, that is to say his ambition, he has people like Julian around him - someone who can think like him and understand his intentions. Without Julian's insight, the Iserlohn fleet might not have been able to come to Yang's aid in time. Reinhard, having lost Kircheis, no longer has someone who "understands" him, as we saw at the start of the episode.
Another touch I thought was nice was how at the start Reinhard remarks that crashing the fortresses against each other might have been a more effective way of accomplishing their goal, then in the next scene you have Yang saying "Reinhard most likely isn't leading this operation, since if I were Reinhard I'd have just crashed the fortresses against each other". It's just one way of showing how he and Yang are much more alike than either one of them are aware at this point, and how if not for their most likely irreconcilable political differences they might actually work very well together - with Yang possibly even filling the Kircheis shaped gap in Reinhard's soul.

Come on!!! I can't wait until September to watch the rest of this fierce battle.

To start off, it's becoming more clear what Fezzan is trying to achieve. Their strategy is smart and costs them almost nothing, but the fact that they're confident they'll get the best of Reinhard makes me wonder how strong of a plan they actually have and if they've already planted spies in the empire. Very ironic to see Oberstein apologize when he's the one behind deploying Kempff. I am now wondering why Reinhard agreed to it; was he testing Kempff? One thing that stands out in this episode is the fact that Julian is definitely the "disciple" of his guardian. It's good to see that someone is learning from that talent. However, it's a little concerning that the commander himself can't arrive at the same conjectures Julian arrived at.

I really like this part a lot, I think it highlighted the contrast in the political approach/state of the Alliance and the Empire and how the weaknesses of one or the other are being used in the interest of another nation. I also really liked the emphasis on the economy moving and manipulating the course of political events. I haven't watched the original, but I think this part has done a great job of laying the grounds for the second half of the story.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

The same thing happened between S1 and S2, and back then we had to wait over a year.

The next episode which is the first of the next season should be the end of novel Vol 3 story and the next season’s final episode should be the end of novel Vol 4 story.

so we end at the quivalent of episode 34 an a half from the old OVA series
many things i liked about this ep, we got a tiny bit of king of poker face Oberstein
i thought Kempf was gonna lash out like some lunatic but he actually listened to Muller, too bad their plan was foiled by the combined efforts of Murai an Julian, while Merkatz leads the counterattack, also Phezzan is about to make its move

yes this is the most cucked ending we getting so far, i remember season 1 also ended 1 ep before the end of the main battle... if season 4 ends where i think its gonna end, we will get the biggest cucked ending yet

Is this really were they choose to end it? It's a weird place to do so to be honest. Are we sure there won't be another episode next week?

Hate that this season had to end on a cliffhanger, but it was still a good episode. Kempf has considered ramming the two fortresses together after being cornered by Merkatz and Yang. It was funny that both Yang and Reinhard had the same mindset if they were leading the Imperial fleet. So we have to wait three months to see the conclusion of this battle which is not bad, but still a painful cliffhanger.

8/10

See you guys in September/October

Ahhh now to wait for the other season to see the end of the battle, it already seemed strange to me that there was so much left to adapt and only this last chapter would remain.

Everything that was the prelude to the battle felt well carried out and created a great expectation that was also fulfilled.

Sooo basically this whole season is about one message "imperial army without emperor in charge is useless before space USA even without Yang Wenlee". Authors favoritism is so clear here it's pathetic. Yawn.

p.s. yeah I'm pretty sure some 16 y.o. kid can read a strategy of an experienced general in one go too lol

I love how the Alliance turned the tables despite being outnumbered and Iserlohn batteries being manupulated. The failed infiltration destroyed the whole plan.

Kempf could not get in a favourable position after that anymore.
The following tactics failed even harder and most of the fleet is apparently lost.

I bet Iserlohn can evade the Geiersburg, except they can ram with warp speed.

Quite an abrupt cliffhanger to stop on and hope people will still remember the plot 3 months from now...

felt like it could have been better if they ended the season at the next episode to start the next on the new arc.

Lets face it: This anime shines when it involves Yang, or Rein, or both together. When they are not shown on screen, its difficult to care for whats going on. The battle in space in these last 2-3 episodes were difficult to care for until Yang got involved.

As for these 12 episodes season 3, these 12 episodes were really meh overall. But after this episode 36, looks like things are starting to get spicy again, and cant wait for season 4 later this 2022.

I can't believe they did that. As "cliffhangers" go, this this is like being left dangling over the edge of of The Grand Canyon. I'll be waiting anxiously for the next 2+ months to find out what will happen. Something tells me it won't be the obvious 'smash the stations together' answer the spent the last two episodes teasing.

I think Reinhardt is taking Kercheis' dying words a bit too literally and not in the way it was intended when he said it originally. Seeing how far he will take it, and if/how Yang will intercede, will continue to make this #1 on the list of series I am hooked on.

Totally agree. Shame on the writers. It's the only reason I gave the episode 4/5 stars. For two weeks I double-checked to see if there was a 13th episode, even though I knew there wasn't. Anime withdrawals suck.

This episode looks like a reference to the Battle of Myeongnyang in 1597, where Admiral Sun-shin Yi demolished 200 Japanese ships with only 13 Korean ships.

The main similarities being attacks from ranged weapons in a narrow strait (Iserlohn Corridor), by a force heavily outnumbered.

Not that anyone would read this 🤣

Finally, he listened to Muller's advice. Julian, on the other hand, was able to pick up on what their strategy was, which really helped Yang in the most vital moment.

Kempf is now going to crash the fortress, death flags everywhere now. He's desperate because he lied to his superior, so he's doing everything he can to shake up the alliance.

Good thing I'm binge watching lmao, watching this seasonal would have been a pain. Whoever thought it was a good idea to end the cour here deserves high praise lmao.

Anyway Kempf and Muller plan completely failed but Kempf has ultimately come to the conclusion Yand and Reinhard thought of, crashing the fortress into it.
