Greetings everyone! ^_^
I just wanted to announce changes in the club's discord server. We now have events centred around improving members' drawing, creative writing, manga creation and storytelling skills in general. We are planning to hold weekly activities or events if you will, each week focusing on a different area of storytelling (whether that is writing, manga or graphic novels/comic making/drawing). There is a role for members who are interested in this in the server, we have called this "mangoboarders". You can give yourself this role in the #rules-roles channel.
Here's the updated invite link: https://discord.gg/yDaHkbWE
There's seven activities, one per week is the goal for now, there will of course be resources provided to help participants in for/during each one. Here's a brief description of each:
-Drawing:
where you follow a tutorial(s) (or reference) for drawing, lets say, a character. The idea is to follow the same tutorial(s)/ reference(s) at the same time (within a week) as other participating users. Each week this is done, we will be focusing on a different area, for example anime, animals, humans, landscapes ect. In addition, each member will provide feedback for another participant
- Story premise:
This activity consists of each participant typing up a premise for a story, then others should give suggestions/feedback on how to further another premise which is not their own.
- character profiles:
Here the participants will post their character(s) profile(s). Preferably they should be detailed. If you desire feedback on this, please make that clear and also provide feedback/comment on someone else's. You can use any model you want, a suggestion is Hirohiko Araki's character sheet.
- Creative writing- character description:
As a way of practicing creative writing skills, the participants will post well-written descriptions of one (or more) of their characters (perhaps incorporated within a certain scene). It's preferable to put a decent amount of effort into writing this using metaphors, similes ect. where appropriate. Each person should provide feedback/comment on at least one other person's writing.
- Manga storyboard script:
Before creating a storyboard for a comic/manga, it's advisable to first make a script for it. This will reduce the likelihood of making mistakes during your storyboarding process, which can be time-consuming. A script generally consists of the dialogue, monologues of characters and brief descriptions of what exactly will happen in each panel (so you immediately know what to draw later on).
- Manga storyboard:
During this activity, you will draw your storyboard. Which is what you will create by following your script. It is basically the drawing of your comic panels but generally, they are very rough sketches to help you visualize your comic's script/story scenes in a sequence. You can choose to do this for a story of your own or a short one by someone else.
- Electronic music challenge:
Participants will make music using applications such as Beepbox (can be used on JavaScript enabled browser) Bosch Ceoil (browser or app) to make music (no instruments needed at all).
We hope to see you there :) |
