Is this actually better than Season 1?

Never watched Season 1 but read manga. Seems like a lot of people didn't season 1 for the bad animation and quality.

Season 1 is at 6.6, season 2 rating is higher than expected after 1 month.

Well I watched s1 since I saw s2 was coming and I can confirm it, it is better than s1. S1 animation was like a joke, CGI was just horrible and the fights just looked like bs. But this season looks pretty fine, they really improved

Season 1 was not good animation wise. It used a lot of low effort CGI which was very distracting. The author was having a hissy fit with the studio's story board so in the end it was move on very short notice to an other studio (or so I'm told).
Story wise I was ok with how it was going most of the time, I liked our edgy boy being edgy, but as someone who only watches the anime i could even tell that large parts were missing from the story.

Season 2 improved it's CGI from game cube to PS2 but also has liberal use of still images, CGI looks out of place anyway.
Story wise it feels a lot more flat than season 1. Our edgy boy seems a lot more tame, like his fangs got dulled out. The harem squad feel like they are only there to exist, and we seem to just adding to it for no reason major reason.

This is subject to change as we only have 4 episodes out of season 2.

S1 was notorious for awful CG. It wasn't Ex-Arm level but was close.
Also, there was a lot of skipped content, including even whole prologue.

S2 is a huge improvement.

Nah. Season 1 was much darker and showed the MCs badass orgin story. How he lost his arm and eye and the creation of his guns. Season was really fucking cool

A great summary right here. Once I accepted the horrendous CGI and awful pacing displayed in the first episode, I was able to enjoy at least the first half of season 1 as a kind of poor man's Shield Hero.

Season 2 just feels kind of phoned in, like they expected the improved visuals to "wow" people enough to forget about the stiff animations and uninspired characters and just left it at that. And it seems like it worked, judging by the amount of posts on this forum gushing about how great the CGI is.

At least the rabbit has been way less annoying so far.
