^ M'kay, no need to be condescending and assume the worst out of everyone here. And the "lol" does not mask the passive aggressiveness of your post. LGBT is still a newer concept for some cultures and ESL's, who are also on this platform. And even in the progressive west, some are simply unfamiliar with the concepts. Maybe just be civil and answer the question instead of looking for conflict.

In the subtitles I watched, the main character is referred to as "genderless". I don't know much about all the facets of LGBT or what the similarities/differences are in the culture of Japan. All I remember is "genderless" being used in the subtitles I watched in one of the first two episodes. I thought it was interesting.

I do think it's charming how they paint Najimi Osana as this "perfect" social person that everyone loves. "Positive representation" as they like to say. Every character seems to have one super amplified gag or quirk, and the gender or whatever isn't this character's.

Sorry if I come off as rude, but while this might all be academic to you, it's very much not to me. I try not to let the ignorance get to me too much, but this is like the fourth thread on this subject in the span of four months, and it's kind of annoying. and it seems like the people that don't know anything aren't interested in learning anything, but would prefer to remain willfully ignorant. see also any time the subject of "traps" comes up.

If anyone doesn't understand "nonbinary" and "genderfluid" I'm willing to explain that in simple terms, but I've been burned on social media a lot by people operating in bad faith, with no actual interest in expanding their knowledge and going outside their tiny comfort bubble. I just really don't like having to be put in the position of being an educator/ambassador/whatever when that's not really something I excel at, but the ignorance here is really starting to get on my nerves. I'm sorry if I don't come across as civil, but look at it this way - if people said hateful shit online all the time about a group you were part of, you'd be hard pressed to stay civil, too. It'd require saint-like patience. I...do not have that.

I guess I do have to remember I'm a grown-ass adult and a lot of the posters here are literal children. and I will be mindful that there are different norms on a message board vs on Twitter (which perpetually has the energy of a cafeteria food fight).

I am not the kind of person who would watch an ep a week, I wait until decent shows finish airing then try to enjoy them to the fullest. Which means, I only watched this anime recently and I've never seen any discussions about Najimi's gender. So, I was a little bit curious tbh. Then I asked on this forum if the author revealed their gender in the manga. That's literally all I wanted to know. Please do keep in mind that the possibility of Najimi being a non-binary or genderfluid doesn't matter at all. Not yo mention that most people only consider two genders. If Najimi isn't a girl then he's a boy.

Well, what I am trying to say is that this question doesn't require all this seriousness. After all, we are talking about anime.

Regards.

Well, I don't think you're wrong about people asking but not being "interesting in learning". Many people aren't interested in expanding their knowledge and deliberately ask in bad faith. I'm sure you've encountered it a lot and are rightfully pissed. The internet is a tiring place, and I don't have the energy to remain saint-like either. I don't know why I'm whining about people being civil on the internet lol.

I was just making accusations of being rude because it seems like most people in this thread are asking in good faith and are generally being respectful. Bigots and deliberately hateful people get on my nerves too, but then I get equally hard-pressed about people who cause strife because they're offended about something. Seems like a lot of folks online are quick to assume people are being hateful, especially with topics like LGBT. But, with your contextual response, you've made it clear why you were on edge. If only you said all of that in your original post haha. Would've been easier to know where you were coming from.

Second reply - there it is, the cringe "najimi is najimi".

They're never going to reveal it's gender, but this creature is almost certainly a dude. It's just wearing a skirt for clout

They were probably born a male at birth but either doesn't identify with binary gender, is gender non conforming in dress, or the author wants their gender to be up to the audiences interpretation (much like Hanji for example).

I can't say for sure, but I think Najimi is genderfluid. Changing uniforms and calling themselves different genders at different points. Or maybe a femboy? Either way I love that character.

After the last episode when Najimi bathed in that fake money tub I realized she s actually a boy...was shirtless and no bra on (or maybe has undeveloped boobs haha).
Anyways Najimi is Najimi and if even the manga readers didn't figure it out it remains a mystery then :). She/he is very hilarous and fun character out there so doesn't matter the gender can be what Najimi wants!

Okay but that's literally the problem and why I assume this person might be upset. I have a lot of afab(assigned female at birth) close friends and despite being assigned female at birth they're not "girls" some even had a hysterectomy and a mastectomy but they're certainly not "boys" so clearly "most people" are wrong.

I see Najimi as someone who went from boy into the general direction of girl but is super chill about gender and has fun with it.

This is basically what I am so I'm obviously biased, but I love Najimi and wish I could be more carefree with gender as she is.

Also I feel it's important to point out that gender and trans stuff doesn't have to have so much meaning or significance attached to it. Ultimately they're just words that are useful to communicate about the human experience.

Regardless, my thoughts on Najimi are haram because the majority of people nailed it - Najimi's gender is Najimi

With them confirming that they are a boy in at least one episode and a girl in several, I believe that they are Genderfluid as it changes over time for them, or something along the line, however even though mostly referred to as they by almost the entire cast, they will either straight out say when moments require if they are a boy of girl, almost always changing on the day, so therefore not non-binary, so under some line of Genderfluid, it does seem like they mostly present as a girl though, but with several cases as a boy, but brought up by mc that they wore the male uniform in middle school maybe that was a time when they mostly related to being a boy, in the pool episode they neither disclosed gender by wearing traditionally fem or masc swim suits but however a mix
