I commented some time ago on this sub-forum about how quiet it was relative to other series, but the thing is, even outside of MAL, on r/anime (Reddit) and other anime-centric internet forums, there is quite low traffic for discussion of this season in English-language spaces compared to other titles.

I'm sure I had glanced at these fluctuating figures before, but that thought coming to me again made me check the main archival pages for both seasons of Hanyou no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogizoushi.

Season 1, despite the significantly lower (by MAL standards) 6.72 rating, is presently ranked #1649 in popularity on the website.

Season 2, by contrast, is rated higher at present, with a 7.16 rating, yet far lower in ranked popularity almost by 2,000 placements, at #3503 in popularity.

Now, I understand full well that there is a lower barrier for entry for all first seasons of all series and that people who dislike the first season either pause/drop it and don't move on to the second or complete it but still don't move on to the second. But is the discrepancy usually this radical?

Still I have to wonder around what percentage of the original Inuyasha fandom is watching this (I don't mean those who watched the original series when it first aired either in Japanese or in English dubbed or dubbed in any other language - I just mean fans of the series in general including those like myself who stumbled upon it way later).

There are more active pages on different websites online for Hanyou no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogizoushi discussion, but off of MAL.

I guess it's one of the classic anime people would rather remember as part of their childhood and nothing more.
For me "Fruits Basket and Shaman King" are anime that are part of my childhood. But I'm happy to see light being shined on them again now. People who feel the same way for "Inuyasha" are just fewer in comparison.

And then there's me, flailing about, with zero childhood nostalgia since I didn't watch it until I was 25...

Perpetually a minority in a minority fandom.

Season 2 was hard to get through. The writing really fell to pieces. They killed off a good character and didn't have a replacement. Not surprising at all.

Way too happy, way too easy to resolve problems, no stakes. Not surprised people lost all interest. It seems pretty obvious. Add on the show not being new anymore. Sleep mode for the studio.

Started to feel uninteresting and more like mid-stream Inuyasha, way too much nostalgia. Started to feel like an old generation thing. Whereas S1 was a new generation thing.

If they make a S3, then I hope they don't make the same mistake. Characters need to be vulnerable and characters should be featured for a reason (like the little girl in the Reiwa era). Too much of it became happy family time for the sake of it. The show became generic unlike its shocking S1. Expected. Safe. Boring. A snooze.

The writers really got caught in their own tricks with no way out. Up sh#t creek without a paddle. Should've made a new character or two for this 2nd season. Needed more ammo.
