I’m not saying that the movie was bad, I liked the plot and thought it was good, the thing is that nothing interesting happened in the whole movie, everything was slow and way too calm.
Please don’t misunderstand me, I think that some slow and calm animes or movies are really good, but I didn’t like this one in particular.

I was just wondering, does anyone have the same opinion as me?

I'm on the side of people who liked the movie which is a rarity, as most people who I have seen are people who thought it was bad or painfully average. I loved the first part and second, the third was particularly underwhelming as it could have been executed better if their wasn't a song at the end. Nothing interesting actually happens in the movie, the guy never moves on and the girl does, that's pretty much the conclusion, so I don't blame you for not liking it.

Yeah, you are not the only one who has a low opinion on this.

Personally I thought the message was strong, but it was executed poorly. Makoto Shinkai films have amazing art and beautiful messages, but lack in plot execution. That’s just my opinion, but honestly the movie was not bad.

It's got nearly an 8 so in general it's done very well but not in comparison to his other works.

Slice of Life generally is "boring" though, sometimes it'll hit sometimes it'll miss

Yea i also found the movie boring, visually it was good but overall storywise it was average. I have seen some people give the opinion that this movie was very realistic, i agree with them but it wasn't executed very well

Eh, I guess I can see why someone would find the movie boring. Personally I liked it. Although honestly this isn’t really a question, there have been many people that saw this movie and it’s guaranteed to have many different opinions. In this case there’s people out there that have the same opinion as you. I find this opinion respectable.

I agree. I guess I was hoping for more romance and emotion but I found some parts hard to follow and it didn’t keep me very invested throughout. I would give the manga a go based on the comments.

To be honest, I watched the movie because it's Mokoto Shinkai's work and I was disappointed.

I agree with you and others in this thread. The way it was split up lead to confusion and while the weird ending left a strong message it left a sense of displeasure, in the bad way.

If we leave out the looks and animation, plot was really not that solid tbh. Some people like it, some don't.
It is rather dumb to not criticize it just because it is made by Makoto Shinkai.
Personally, I enjoyed it, but I can understand why many people find it slow and empty.

Well i totally felt in the whole movie that its just realy empty and boring.
Untill in the third part the (i think legendary) music start to play with the dramatic background and in that moment it just "hit different". And gives you a true understanding of the meaning of emptines.

So yes it fell booring and empty but its reflecting on the main charachter life, who felt empty and boored with life. But in a good and dramatic way in the end

In the begining I want to make this clear that it's completely my opinion, it may different from others coz we all have our own tastes.

This film wasn't boring at all, rather it was very much true and a complete masterpiece, shinkai quite beautifully portrayed hoe distance can effect relationships and the after effects of it, the girl was able to move on but the boy couldn't, it literally gave me goosebumps and the last scene where they crossed their paths but couldn't get back along made me emotional.

i have watched this movie twice and I love it, but I can understand you, for me Kimi no nawa was so boring af, in general Makoto Shinkai's movies have average plot with outstanding visual so it can get boring as you watch

This movie sure is difficult to grasp at first. I watched it twice just understand what does it all mean, only to get it when reading the manga. Watching this movie after reading the manga would be a good idiot since you can understand the characters and emotions better.

Maybe this movie is not for your taste. I don't think it's boring, in fact, I think it's one if the best works of Makoto Shinkai. This movie has deep meaning when you think deeply 😅. Reading the manga might help you elaborate things. So I recommend you to read it as well.

This movie is legitimately the most well-crafted and executed work I've seen in anime. All-time favorite. Sad you don't appreciate it, but it is what it is. I could actually write anyone a whole essay on it, if they'd be interested :]

No but in all seriousness, the movie is absolutely supposed to be slow-paced. The title is "5 Centimeters Per Second" - a very slow pace that is mirrored by the pacing of the "plot" of the movie, the soundtrack, and the main theme: the distancing between the two initial protagonists. This speed motif is also evident in the seasons (spring & winter - notice how the "weather" is only ever cherry blossoms or snow), and is contrasted with trains and a rocket.

For me it's actually my favorite anime movie of all time, but not because it is objectively better than all the others. It was just the perfect movie for the time of my live, where I watched it.

Yes, but this movie is little hard to understand. It's more about the story and how the characters moved away from each away and never got to talk to each other again. I think the message was great and the artstyle, but it was made in a way that was a little boring

I was kind of just enjoying the art so I forget exactly what happened. Something about a girl getting her heart absolutely obliterated after realizing the guy she likes, likes another girl...?

I give it a 6 which is okay ish for standards but it is a lower score in my list when I look at my movies only (not short movies that are listed in there). My lowest movie score is a 4 if I don't include shorts etc.

When I first watched this I was bored out of my mind, I think I dozed off watching this film. But if you really tried to sit down and paid attention to the dialogues, I think this could be a chill maybe a relatable show for you. I personally did not click with the show and I really dislike using backstories and monologues as a way to narrate stories. I prefer other Shinkai films than this show that's for sure (Garden of Words in particular).

The plot moves at 5 Centimeters Per Year
I remember liking this movie when I first watched it ages ago but after a recent rewatch I’m really struggling to understand what I found so appealing back then. The characters are likable and it is pretty, the landscapes are nice but there doesn’t seem to be a substantial plot. I haven’t read the LN or manga so i don’t know, maybe there’s just stuff left out of the film
