Parallel/Isekai + time travel, seriously!? Even necessary to cameo other story branches? Just make separate season per branch like Fate or go in order.
Feels 2000s oldish animation, nice OP music.
MC started extreme cringe, still a hero wannabe, but grew better by end.
Ah Meiya, Emiya's long lost sister. Classrep biggly glasses ever.
Where's Komaki?

"started extremely cringe"
they toned it down. Takeru in the VN is a manchild. But that's what makes the VN good. You get to see his character growth after being abused so much.

"Just make separate season per branch like Fate or go in order."
all the source reader is begging for at least an unlimited arc before alternative.

totally, also unfortunate a popular VN done by these small studios, tho quality baseline acceptable for now.

let's talk. what the fuck with the downgrade?

When I saw this I thought it might be because here they’re saluting to Alternative V while the original scene was saluting to Alternative IV? Let’s see whether they present an upgraded scene in the end lol.

They’re never going to replicate the total immersion provided by the VN. With anime as a medium I was hoping to see some key scenes in a different way (animated, third-party perspective etc.) and that would be decent enough for a fan of the original VN. It could also be something I can finally recommend non-VN-readers to watch, since the original is so long and not many people have the time to make it through, so now I don’t even bother trying. Obviously I’m not going to give this a 10/10 or even 9/10 but it hasn’t felt the dumpster fire that some seem to think either.

The biggest gripe I have about this episode is the flashback to the volcano incident, which seems would definitely look incomprehensible to somebody who hasn’t actually read Unlimited. I also agree that true tension was lacking in scenes such as where Yuuko pointed her gun at Takeru.

I think the original Muv-Luv Alternative has become such a religion-like experience for readers, it’s easy to go to the extremes. I was also very suspicious of the adaptation, though I’m looking forward for this cour to end before drawing more conclusions.

I actually never really liked Meiya's voice in the original VN. Don't know, maybe it felt a bit too coarse/rough? Always wished it was done by a different VA. AFAIK the VA was also not a regular in the industry and retired pretty soon. Looking forward to how this Meiya is interpreted.

It's the opposite for me, i like her original VA over her new VA.

Yep, the new VA hasn't left a strong impression so far either. I think it will be the later key scenes involving Meiya that really test the quality of this VA.

Exactly, the impression isn't there yet, well still giving her a chance since it's only the first episode with her. And agreed that those key scenes will be a real test to her.

Meiya's VA (and the others) seem to sound OK. But Takeru's VA, wow, what was Age thinking... Literally sending a noob to the battlefield.

Everything except the 3DCG production is unfortunately subpar. It makes me wonder how an IP with so much clout like Muv-Luv got shafted with such an underwhelming adaptation.

they decided to make it after multiple in universe spinoffs that fell into obscurity whilst making adaptions for those less popular games instead, now 15 or so years late they pull out their would be trump card of adapting their magnum opus just to cheap out due to im assuming lack of funds after churning out subpar shit since MLA.

Takeru needs to calm the hell down. He's more sensitive than I had expected.

Got to see more of Meiya and the other soldiers making their official introductions. Life doesn't look easy for any of them but it looks like they all expected that. Not as much as violence this episode as the first one.

He's got reason to be sensitive, but the problem is they cut that out for the anime adaptation. Maybe they will go back to it with more flashbacks and narration, but as already explained, he've gone through a lot trying to get things right.

Avex wanting to keep this "within the family", for example VWP (the virtual singers for the OP) is run by Avex, BGM is Evan Call (Avex).

It's just so odd to me. The steam release got so much hype, and from what I can tell, was a success despite being funded by Kickstarter. All the TSF CG is great and makes me think this is an anime from 2021, but the all the character animations look so cheap and garbage. Why'd they have to fuck with the fortified suits so much lol? And apparently, this adaptation will be catering for those who haven't read unlimited or extra, so I assume based on that, this won't be a faithful adaptation of alternative; I really doubt it'll get a second cour, but I could be proven wrong.

Nope. Even if the anime lacks all the previous context from the original novels, it's pretty clear that Yuuko herself decided to keep Takeru around with the authority of an executive commander of the base, out of a reason that she herself understands. Even then, she doesn't totally believe Takeru yet.

Also, it's explained in this episode quite clearly that Yuuko has been driving Alternative 4 all this time and doesn't want Alternative 5 to take place, thus her interests are aligned with Takeru's wish to prevent Alternative 5. So it has nothing to do with a high school kid's preferences.

I'll assume we're on the same event. xD But yes, it is indeed a growing point of Takeru, so yeah. Its without doubt one of the reasons for his desire to save everyone.
Also.. true...Meiya's route was one of the most emotional ones.

these characters are so empty. I can see what they're going for with each of them, but none of the characters ever emote, or have any unique character traits that make them feel in any way human.

Also I hate people who say this, but I really think this story would work better in live action. Human faces can show more restrained emotion that works better in a military environment like this. As it stands there's almost no character being expressed here because they're all so stiff and formal - their emotions are too nuanced and minute to be able to be expressed with anime characters. The only other option would be exaggerating all the characters out more.
