| Some of the scenes in the opening were a straight nod to Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down, including the operation CO staring down the screens with the downed helicopter. Hey, Leon's back! Yeah Leon that suit don't look good on you, get back on your jacket. XP |

| Leon is back. Nice. Claire commenting on the fact that Leon doesn't fit in the suit is funny. Gotta say, the opening of it is kinda meh, but it's interesting where it goes from here.   That white house scene was creepy, it's nice to see Resident Evil still having that horror vibe even years later.  |

That seems like the consistent motive in a lot of cases. In this case, the past 30+ years of U.S. involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts since 1990 (although I took the country depicted to be something most closely approximating Somalia, which is in East Africa and not usually lumped in as part of the Middle East, but there are a lot of Muslims there and there was U.S. intervention in the Somali Civil War with the famous "Black Hawk Down incident" during the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993). Every time they want to show US in confict with some country why is it always a Middle Eastern looking country that has -stan in the end Throughout the Cold War decades it was usually the Russians (well, more specifically the Soviets) featured as the go-to antagonists either as cunning individual masterminds like jewel thieves and nuclear terrorists or just faceless hordes of bad guys to be beat up in films and TV series of the time and other forms of media, and sometimes the Germans due to the previous two world wars. Around the late 90s to early 2000s to a lesser extent there was a brief window when this role was filled by the Serbs due to the war on Yugoslavia. And the way things are going in the world today with what looks like a new Cold War kicking off, it will probably be Russia again and China too in the coming decades. |
