Very nice to have a docking collar that can connect directly to the Metal Armor's cockpit. I don't think I've seen this before in a mecha show. In other mechas, the ENTIRE HANGAR BAY had to be pressurized/depressurized first, which would require a lot of time and an obscene amount of excess air to be stored on the ship.

One look at their bland character designs was all he needed to know that they would be useless fodder.

Oh wow they're even worse than useless! They disobeyed his orders!

I liked how the refugees from the colony are upset with the Federation. In MSG and War in the Pocket, you had the Feddies conducting secret Gundam testing inside (officially) neutral civilian colonies, such as Side 7 or Side 6. Inevietbly Zeon found out and sent warships to capture or destroy the Gundams, which caused a huge amount of damage and loss of life amongst those colonies. You'd think that there'd be an uproar, but it's unaddressed. So I'm glad that the refugees who had their colony blown up are pretty pissed at the Federation.

Also, stuff like the Federation posing as a "refugee ship" to transport secret weapons is why part of the reason why Spacenoids are right to never trust the Feddies.

I like how Light's mech is specialized towards a support/command role (squad leader watches his dedicated radar/sensors to give call outs). I haven't really seen any role variety/specialization in other mecha shows. It seems that every single mech's role is to blow others up, so it always comes down to a test of martial skill. Sometimes another mecha will provide covering fire from afar, and that's it.
