Opinion: If it wasn't hyped up as an hour-long "Special" people wouldn't be as mad as they are now

Exactly what the title says. I think people were expecting much more, not a recap tied together to a normal episode. Honestly, so was I. But when the recap ended and we finally got the "conclusion", I wasn't happy nor disappointed, but I liked it, kinda. If I had to guess, CloverWorks may possibly make a movie sequel or (I sure hope) a season 2?

Someone on Reddit summed it up perfectly: "4/10 and 9/10 at the same time" and I agree completely. It was bad, but at the same time it was most definitely a Wonder Egg Priority episode.

What do y'all think?

Just believe the person above me said.
Now I don’t know if it’s a great show or if I still like it. Plus I really like that art style of the “After the rain” protagonist.
People would still be mad. Is still a 25 minutes long recap, then 15 minutes of new content that leaves you with more questions than answers.
Season 2? With all the production problem, issues and creative disagreements seems like it may never happen.

The recap was annoying. But the episode itself was awfully paced and was near impossible to follow.

was it hyped up that much ?
all i knew was "a special episode bringing closure to the story"
well, it didn't. giving it a bad score, then moving on. why people get mad over such trivial things lol

I'm not reading any replies or comments directed at me at all. I know my truth and if you disagree: that's fine but i couldn't give a damn about :)

I agree. If fans were aware that the special was pretty much just another episode long, they wouldnt have had high expectations. I pretty much knew it wasnt going to answer a lot of people's questions after I went through that monstrous recap. 20 minutes left, what do you expect? Since it has been said that it was supposed to conclude the series, it turned out to somehow be a way to hype season 2. Anime was good, special sucked.

Nah I wasn't upset about half of it being a recap, I honestly expected that. Actually, I'm pretty sure they said the first part was gonna be a recap anyway? Considering this special episode was just supposed to be the last episode, but because of production issues (and loads of them), it got postponed. Correct me if I'm wrong! So it being hyped up as an hour long special is probably fans' fault online.
I was happy about having a recap though, cos I needed one lmao. I guess it would've been better if they used that airtime for new content instead, because this ending.... well we all know what we think of it. Though again considering all the issues they had with the production during the season itself, that would've been impossible.

Pretty much everyone active in the WEP Discord server knew it would be half recap already and probably had low expectations because of it, and still 95% of us are extremely disappointed and think the episode is really bad. They could have done much better, even in 20 minutes, this is just horrible.

I didn't mind the recap, really could be useful for people who just might've forgotten some details. But the way it ended made it seem like I got 10 minutes of content and the rest was an ad for season 2. Problem is, everywhere I've heard, including Funimation, this is the conclusion. I've got more questions added from this than I've received plausible answers from before.

Well in my circles there was no hype, everyone was already iffy after the last few eps. The news that it would be an hour long was just "ok that makes sense if they want to do a proper ending", but they just used half of it for another recap. Considering that the ending felt like a midseason cliffhanger, I don't think the recap made much sense. Even without the hype, everyone I've read hated it all the same.

I already had a really really low expectation in the beginning, I knew it's actually just an episode because the recap of episode 8. That's why I went watching this with negative emotions, and it turned out I somewhat enjoyed it and gave it 7/10.
Why did people hype it anyway? There's no way they manage to answer every single question for such an anime like WEP in just a span of an episode, having high expectation is always wrong no matter what...

I think I was just excited to see the finale, but it was honestly really bad. It left too many questions unaswered, it raised some questions on how the process of reincarnation worked, and Frill got out with like 1 additional scene.
I don't like this ending, I feel like there could have been 2-3 more episodes to tie it all together, but for those first 11 episoded (excluding ep.8, a.k.a. recap) it was definietly a 9.5/10 for me, the last episode lower it to 8.5/10, but oh well, what you gonna do
