I knew of Blue Reflection as a game when it came out but never got around to playing it. When I saw an anime would be released using the same world as the game, I was curious about it. It's not on the top of my anime list this season so I decided to wait and see what others thought about it. The reception is definitely mixed and seeing the score doesn't help with how others will see it. So I'm wondering what makes this a very mixed anime. Is it the story or animation? I really want to know.

I personally dropped this anime becuase the plot bored me. The characters put me to sleep, and the animation was alright i guess.

I've never played the game before but I'm watching because I'm a mahou shoujo trash. So far the story is quit normal... I'm currenctly stuck in the 5th episode wich had a nice battle, transformations and glitterined(?) attack, all that mahou shoujo stuff. I think techniaclly you could expect more (because it's an anime derived from a game), it's very poor thecnically, the animation, the colors, the drawing lines, but in some parts it has its charm. And I'm starting to love some characters.

It's OK at best. Like personally, I can see it getting a little better, but nothing past that. Doesn't help that the characters come off as bland boring messes, or least most of em do.

I wuite like the art style however the characters just look sunburnt, there are areas that are bright pink that just don't make sense

I'm a fan of the game so I'm watching this show. I know isn't a show for everyone, it's more an acquired taste. For me it's interesting because of the game's background there some connections in this plot. I also liked the art style and OST.

I actually like the animation, it looks cheap, it looks kinda bad but more importantly it looks retro which reminds me of sailor moon.
the anime it self is just extremely boring, 40% of the viewers have dropped it and episode after episode I think i might do the same, it's so fucking boring it took me 2 hours to watch a single episode and I'm still not done with it and instead came here to write this

Its not too bad but not that great either, I like the characters and that everyone including rivals gets development but it is kinda slow so people could find it boring, it also seems to be a little predictable that with the animation style doesn't make it much better. The simplistic style isn't too bad though seen animes that looked worse.

Episode 9 seems to be looking good, though I think i'm just repeating what others say... but i'll add that I think they're using the 24 eps really well to get everyone fleshed out.
At any rate this anime will be rather niche...?

Haven't played the game (and didn't really know about it til after starting the show recently), so I may be missing some context.

But my impression at this point (about 3 episodes in) is that (1) I could've sworn the "stealing people's negative emotions"/"good or bad, people's feelings are their own" monster-of-the-week premise was a specific season or arch or Sailor Moon, & (2) the mixed-media battle settings and some of the darker subjects that come up are very Madoka-influenced.

Both of those things are fine, given that both SM & MM were pillars for today's magical girl genre.
Those things just really stuck out to me.

Past that, I do find Ruka to be kind of boring and Hiyori to be that kind of one-note, relentlessly optimistic type, but as I said, I'm only a few episodes in, so it may be a slow burn that will develop more later.

I think it's fine.

I just glanced over first half of the first episode and immidietly realised that it is exactly the type of show I despise as I have feared. And from episode discussions, it seems it only got worse.
No harsh feelings and I don't think it's a bad show or anything like that, but it seems to be aimed at the very narrow target audience.

It's not a phone game. It released on PS4 and Vita a few years ago

This anime dragged so much in the first 12 episodes. After episode 13 it started to get interesting. I however think the lack of small recaps make this storyline so easily forgettable. I watch my episodes in twos because of this. Very easy to forget about this one. Every new episode you forget about all of previous ones. I do however love the characters and looove the music especially in the scenes of the sisters and looove the very psychedelic animation and scenery. It keeps getting better but if you're impatient, I don't recommend.
