Hello, I was wondering if anyone had recommendations to anime similar to this one. Not necessarily story wise, but I really like how unhesitant it was to approach these kinds of topics and not beating around the bush or being half-assed with it. I really like psychological anime and experiencing the extreme corruption found in people. Thanks in advance!

Pupa but it has a really bad story or mahou shoujo site which is more or a creepy horror than a psychotic horror.

Amongst the ones I’ve watched I’d say Mirai Nikki. There’s just one main guy and girl and the girl is a messed up yandere

The closest anime to this is Sankarea. Both are very dark and deal heavily with pedophilia.
All of these are psychological mind f*cks that have similar aspects in that the characters are psychotic (and mostly female): Elfen Lied, Mirai Nikki, Munou na Nana, Higurashi When They Cry.

I've been hearing a lot about that anime (mainly everything that happens in the first episode) and it definitely looks interesting, I'll be sure to check it out!

dang I looked pupa up just to see how bad it is and the ratings are incredibly low, I absolutely have to watch it now

yesss I've watched mirai nikki and I really liked it, probably would've liked it even more if yuki wasn't so annoying though

I've already watched elfen lied and mirai nikki, but I'll definitely check out the others. Oh the ideas running around in my mind after reading the premise of sankarea...

I understand that higurashi when they cry has multiple seasons, I'm guessing the newest ones are reboots? Should I watch those or should I watch the older ones? Or do you recommend both?

Watch it but it is kinda a waste of time. Either way of you watch it you'll enjoy making fun out our it and won't get back half an hour of your time back.

The new one is a continuation, not a reboot. So if you watch only the new season, you might be a little confused!

The new one is a continuation, not a reboot. So if you watch only the new season, you might be a little confused!

Try my favorite anime (well, kind of spiritually tied with my #1), Koi Kaze.

It's not a horror at all, unlike this series and most of the suggestions above. It's a psychological romantic drama and Slice of Life which also deals with the concept of taboo love and two people facing existential crisis of breaking totally with society for achieving realization of their version of love and a desired life. It's the series which got me into anime period. Happy Sugar Life is also in my Top 20 and fairly earlier on in the series I saw as well. And after seeing dozens more series, over 140 by now, to me there are numerous deep thematic similarities between the two moreso than any other series I've seen and it's probably what attracted me to Happy Sugar Life in the first place.

Yup! And yet there is a really strong plot! Character development, the whole 9 yards!
And... hard to watch brutality...
As others said: Magica Madoka is just terrific.
Yuuki Yuuna Is A Hero... everything about it is gold! New season coming too! Looks so cute and fluffy... then... 😮
Gakkou Gurashi (Live At School Club) is fantastic, with zombies.
Shows like Another, Erased are good mysteries (with violence)

Pupa is just terrible, it had so much potential... wasted.

Higurashi: The OS: season 1 is 10/10. Season 2 is 5/10, what a train wreck.
New Higurashi: It's good! Not a remake or a reboot, just a retelling of the original story.
