| Yes, these girls are repeat offenders, scofflaws! They know exactly what they are doing, and they are just betting the police will not pull them over and ask for ID. In the light novel, Koguma states that one reason for getting her full motorcycle license (probably the medium size bike license in Japan) is that she is worried about the police pulling her over. If she gets a license for a larger bike, then mods the bike, pays someone to bore out the cylinder for more horsepower, then she can re-register her bike as 50cc or greater. In Japan, they have different color license plates according to the size of your bike's engine. The smallest bikes are not allowed on a lot of highways with higher speed limits, and Koguma has already been pushing it by riding her bike where she shouldn't. In the light novel, she complains about traffic cops seeing her white license plate and directing her to the roads or lanes for small bikes. It costs a lot to get licensed and registered for a bigger motorcycle in Japan, but Koguma is willing to spend all her summer job money to get a yellow license plate like Reiko's, and is sure the cops will let her make U turns and ride on the bigger highways with a more powerful bike. |
