I recently watched it on Netflix and it is comfortably a high 9 for me.
Wouldn't call it a masterpiece but quite good. My only question is how realistic is this show, bcoz I dont think unfit underaged high school girls ever sould be allowed in such expeditions and there is not very much potrayal of how cold barren and empty Antarctica really is and psychological impact of those....
In that sense to me they only tried to make a fun adventure story.

Yeah i doubt its all that realistic. Adults would likely just ignore the kids and Antarctica may be beautiful at times but its probably hellish 90% of the time. Series was amazing though. The pride and joy of the cute girls doing cute things

It’s not realistic at all. I highly doubt a group of researchers would decide to let 4 minors with very limited and niche experience to Antarctica just because they want some celebrity youth reporter to come along. However, I believe that going to Antarctica is used here to emphasize the larger message that is trying to be conveyed. Whether it’s realistic or not probably was the least of the author’s concern.

Very unrealistic, not to mention real wonen arent generally so overtly melodramatic and punchable.
(I didnt like it personally)
He died doing what he wanted, no matter what, right? I bet he was happy.

Good luck with berserk Kouji Mori, you'll need all the help you can get. We believe in you.

Well, they got in through a cheat code anyway. Depends if you believe whether the cheat code is realistic enough.

i'd say it's pretty realistic. but why care about how realistic is something in an anime. it's just a waste of time

A few months old, but just wanted to point out that Antarctica coasts are not that cold in summer, when the sun is most of the day. The temperature varies between -10 and 0°C, not really different from winter in some northern countries. So as long they have power, food and the motivation for the daily activities, it's quite liveable in summer there. Even in winter, the minimum average temperature is "only" around -20°C (the long nights might have other impacts though).

There are actual tours to visit Antarctica as part of a tour group so yea I say pretty damn believable. Also the premise for this story is that the expedition to Antarctica this time isn't strictly for scientific purpose but a civilian one (Who also has to adhere to strict Antarctica protocols to prevent pollution) so I can see why some people got confused and think that they are part of a scientific research group

Well depends on which parts, of we break it down.

Going to the South pole at around 16 of age: this has already been done.

Civilian expeditions, there are plenty of civs that have gone there. If you are citizen of one of the treaty countries you can look into how to go your self.

Weather and ocean current is pretty realistic on how they work.

Old ice breaker pretty much functions as it's shown, stops are short to make sure this ship doesn't freeze into the ice then it's stuck.

Getting lost there, and using guide lines are crucial in a white out.

Professional attitude so even if a group of school girls went they'd be treated as adults and expected to do their share of work.

It is extremely dangerous, especially winter months, so procedures need to be followed, like clothes check and equipment check before starting.

The aurora borealis is typically opposite, it's hard to see with the naked eye. Unless there's a big solar flare, typically it's white and hazy, long exposure cameras with special lens show the colours better.

But the adults wouldn't pay much attention to them as they would be busy doing their research, and they most likely wouldn't be going to a base and somewhere more 'touristy'

Definitely unrealistic having minors going. If i remember correctly, They try to explain this away as the expedition needing funding and their solution was the influencer... (an influencer who doesn't even want to go, the girls make a deal with her manager if they convince her to go then they can also go?) So yeah pretty unrealistic.

For them showing how Antarctica really is i dont think would add anything to the show. Infact I think it would take away.
The beginning it shows the girls learning about Antarctica, working part time to pay for it, training, basically doing everything they can to go and "hyping" it up only to then be shown to the audience its a cold baren nothingness and they are having psychological problems being there. It would just be like wtf??

I do agree that they made a fun adventure story but I think it worked in its favor.

> how realistic is this show?

Soviet Yorimoi:
Russia is currently sending a nuclear icebreaker to the North Pole (which is ocean all over, unlike the landmass of Antarctica). Besides its regular crew, the ship now carries a group of STEM talent teenagers from Russia and the following "russophile" countries: Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, China P.R.C., Hungary, India, Kamerun, Kazakhstan, Kirghizistan, Mongolia, South Africa, Tunesia and Uzbekhistan. Dubbed "Icebreaker of Knowledge" by its sponsor, the Rosatom nuclear technology company, this expedition is supposed to popularize atomic energy and interest in STEM field among the youth. They set sail on 13th August 2024 and supposed to reach the North pole around 20th-22nd, spending several days there and starting the return leg on or after the 25th of August.

(Note 1: as you can see, the list of participating countries is rather varied, including some of the poorest in 3rd world and outright dictatorships. Russia is increasingly getting isolated in the 3rd year of its Ukraine war of conquest, thus few developed nations are willing to engage in any cooperation with Moscow any more.

Note 2: nuclear icebreakers are only used by Russsia and their reactor cooling systems are designed for cold seas only. Thus they cannot cross the Equator to reach Antarctica or would have to be towed all the way through the tropic seas, which would be excessively risky. Therefore antarctic expeditions are served by conventional, oil-fueled icebreakers.)
