| This was the most ridiculous and the worst episode of the series for me. Yes, the show has always been over-the-top and theatrical. But when Bond kicked a coin at a gatling gun so Moran can bounce a bullet off it, it was at least insanely entertaining. This "case" had nothing going on other than pure reasoning and talking, and so it just helplessly fell apart. A child representing himself in court? Waving an edged weapon in the courtroom? Carrying out a violent act in the courtroom is a crime in itself, and before that, no one even bothers to restrain the attacker? Why wouldn't Baxter even try to fight back with force? He's several times taller and stronger than the kid, and he just broke down crying. Using a bloody steak to justify bodily harm is a terrible reach and frankly insults the intelligence of everyone in court. Even if the "pound of flesh" demand stands in court, there's nothing that requires it to be carried out right there, right now; that would be like taking the defendant's wallet in the courtroom as soon as they are sentenced to pay up. These things happen after the trial is concluded. How did that pound-of-flesh contract got notarized anyway? Any English notary would've laughed at the Merchant of Venice reference and waved that piece of paper away. Fine, I can try to overlook the 10-year-old Moriarty standing in the courtroom destroying his opponent, but I feel like they should've put more thought into the actual case. This pound-of-flesh argument did not have a shred of basic logic and believability. |
