Oh my God. So I decided to watch this show and I really got sold by it. Especially this week's episode. And I didn't really mind the CG all that much, and I was pretty intrigued by the plot so I decided to check out the manga. So let's not talk about how unfaithful as fuck epsidoes 1 and 2 were to the first 8 chapters (skipped so many characters, dialouges, events even entire pages) I did realise all of this and I didn't read the chapters. I was like swiping the pages so quickly to get to episode 3 events and I never really did. I finished chapter 9 and nothing seemed familiar at all. So many characters, events, etc... So I decided ok I will keep swiping until I get to the Emden vs cestvs fight but I gave up around chapter 25. As there was no light of that event happening soon from what I realized. I looked up "Emden vs Cestus" on the internet and everything I saw was like "vol 11 vol 12"!!! And I didn't believe it. I looked up the chapters again and surprise suprise. Today's episode ends exactly at the end of chapter 103. This is legit unreal. This is gotta be the most unfaithful adaptation I have ever witnessed. Even so much more unfaithful than neverland's adaptation. And when I thought nothing could top that abomination. Im honestly at a loss of words.

Assuming it is going to skip everything between the chapters in episode 2 and the ones in episode 3, I'm afraid that this anime is not going to be so boxing-oriented.

This is my main concern with this anime. Since I never got into Jojo but started to like Baki (also lots of chapters but a slow and good adaption it seems) and Kengan Ashura I had high hopes for Cestvs.

Felt weird though when they explained that his old school/owner went bankrupt (or some other problems) and he suddenly had a new owner. I already felt that there was a skip - without checking the source.

This episode was fine though. Maybe it got slower again. And some flashback it seems (with him being owned by the young boy .... the emperor? in the past). I do not think they want to focus on that skipped stuff too much though. (Not many flashbacks I guess.)

Then again: I tseems like Cestvs still is pretty weak compared to others. So probably because of this they made a design choice to just skip to the later chapters. If they now stay slow ... it still might be okay. (If they do not permanently skip again.)

With this listed as 154 chapters (according to MAL not taking onto account a sequel manga listed here as well) and KANLen09 mentioning 97-103 (6 chapters) adapted in episode 3... they might finish the remaining stuff with this same pace without skipping anymore.

I wanted to drop it. But I guess I will stay and watch it fully. I mean ... only 1-cour I guess and I want to see a bit more about Emden and Sabina at least. (Which should be finished in episode 4 I guess.)

The primary concern is that of the contents of the original source material.

In-betrween Chapters 9 to 89 (the Prologue) is the rise of Cestvs and his character development as a slave boxer, but it's just that: more Cestvs, more gladiator-style boxing (which I presume wouldn't make for good viewing content, so they obviously did a timeskip). Personally as I read the manga of the skipped timeline, I felt that it was boring as well for few chaps after Chap 9, so it could have been a risky choice for good or for worse.

With that said, I just hope that they only finish Ankokuden and not go straight into the sequel Shitouden, otherwise it's making a botched adaptation even worse with less sense.

Well that explains why I was so confused when we were suddenly seeing an entirely new cast for characters with no explanation on what happened to the old ones

The difference between the horimiya and tpn2 is that horimiya even without a lot of the stuff from the source still made perfect sense and was a good story even if it might have disappointed the manga readers that they chose to only do it in one season it was still a dam great season
