Echidna only became an even better character after that last scene. It's difficult to find someone with such seemingly selfish and detached interests being so lovably pure in their pursuit of them. It made Subaru's subsequent diatribe appear childish and naive in comparison, but that's partially because he is very naive.

Maybe it's because so many other characters in this have motivations fueled purely by indiscriminate bloodlust, masochistic devotion, or protecting those they love that Echidna's more nuanced means of procuring what she needs to sate her curiosity is so captivating in comparison.

Up to this point, we’ve only seen how Subaru used the Return by Death to avoid dying. This time, we seen the aftermath of his death from each timeline. That was interesting to see.

Subaru has been mentally going through it. He’s been depending on Echidna for advice when things go bad. Now we see her real colors (it was already noticeable from the start). She just wants to use everybody to feed her curious and knowledge

Some Witch Tea Party. The special guest arrived at the end too!

I'm rewatching this season again right now, and once again I still don't get Subaru's reaction to Echidna...

She's only been helpful thus far, and though she has ulterior motives, he's interested in her powers & using her far more than what she's getting out of it. She just gets to experience & watch over everything he goes through, and he gets all her knowledge, experience, help making choices, and even her love if he wants.

He wants to save everyone, and she's offering him the ultimate ally & ace up his sleeve which could help against every adversary he faces (which are always way more powerful than him). He could save Rem, Emilia, and everyone else he cares about. He can outsmart/outmaneuver Roswaal, he could help Beatrice. The potential to achieve all of his goals is being offered, but he flips the F out because he has to give something in return (which is really just allowing Echidna to be a part of the experience)?

Like why does he expect all of this for free? It's an exchange, a very one-sided exchange in his favor, but an exchange nonetheless.

Does he think all of this can be achieved with no sacrifices aside from him just dying a bunch? I thought all the deaths & seeing his friends suffer & die repeatedly (and now potentially living on in those worlds past the point in which he dies) was mentally breaking him. But he thinks THAT is a better road to continue going down then this?

It's not like she's saying he has to sacrifice the ones he loves or anything. And he was open to the idea, but what did he expect her to want from him? He's got literally nothing to offer of value beyond his ability to restart after death. In past episodes he said he'd pay any cost or whatever to see Echidna & speak to her again, but now THIS is too much?

Obviously she has her own objectives, but if the end result aligns with what you're trying to do, why is it such a big deal? Beyond that topic, he could just say "no, not interested," but instead he does another Subaru tirade where he rips into a character for no reason & talks her up as the biggest monster ever while hurling insults. Wtf.

He treats Otto badly every time Otto tries to help or say something kind. He rips into Beatrice when she saves his life, even though he pretends he cares so much about her. He's just a prick who is extremely selfish, trampling over other peoples' feelings while acting entitled to things. I dunno, I'm starting to really not care much about him.

I feel bad for Beatrice. Echidna asked a lot from a poor spirit, and I really hope Subaru can fix things a little. Also, my fear came true—Echidna was far scarier than I expected. I guess she truly deserves her title as the Witch of Greed.

Excellent episode, here Echidna managed to represent greed very well... she simply wants everything from the good to the bad to satiate herself, at the end Subaru managed to see how she really is... a witch and monstrous, making Beatrice wait for someone who was never going to arrive for an experiment without feeling remorse... monstrous is like delivering hope to someone and taking it out on her face at the last moment.
I like that Subaru knows Rem very well, he's his hero for a reason and can't be fooled by a fake imitation.
You figure that what Subaru really does is not a reboot, but not changing the timeline itself... but branching it and creating one after another by dying and leaving the others behind... interesting and kind of sad.
I would love to see that fight between Puck and Reinhard, it would have been epic.
Time to save everyone, once again

@THE_BigDingus Subaru is the biggest weakness of this series.

Subaru ended up in the witches realm and have all the witches coming together for a tea party. At the end, the witch of envy, Satella made her appearance completing the witches group.
