----------------------------------------
Hiroyuki and Harada have a bond. I love this kind of relationship. Not only a bond of Akagi’s wisdom, or a bond of the east west battle, or even a bond of saving Akagi, but a bond of being human and the desire to live. In a large way Harada may be a future representation of Hiroyuki. Sure, Hiro would likely never be a head to a large yakuza family, but Harada represents someone who excelled in the luxuries as Hiroyuki would have taken over truly living. Through all of that, this unlikely pair shared a nice, quiet camaraderie. It puts a smile on my face.

Cut loss, gain, independence, common sense out of your life. Just live like you want to live…! Harada looked triumphant when he said that. Real triumphant. I want to hug this dude really bad. He acknowledged the truth of those words. Luxuries, and our life have nothing to do with each other. But nonetheless, just as Harada suggested before, it’s not easy. Even if we accept these ideas, how do we apply them? Harada, has started in a small way by walking out in his socks, but beyond that, it’s not easy to throw everything away like Akagi did. Harada’s luxuries are his pride, and even if he walked away from that life, he doesn’t know what he’d even do! A part of him wants to defend the dead end that the lifestyle he led takes him on. Now, I’m not Akagi but ever since I read Kurosawa I tried to apply this explicitly and what I can say is from my experience, it’s not a huge change. Rather, it’s the small ones. When you feel like doing something but the sense of restriction or failure or normalcy embraces you, shake it off and take one step at a time. Harada exemplified it perfectly and I have no doubt if he continues to, he will amount to something, just as Akagi promised Hiroyuki would.

Now, the last passing of the torch has occurred, and Ten’s final battle is about to begin. As another man who lived as Akagi has, as a man who may understand him, he will try to save Akagi Shigeru.
