A pretty good first episode for what is basically a total reboot of the series. Season 2 tried to bring in new characters and aside from Shimotsuki they all either died or got 0 characterization for the entire show (or got lore dumps in the final two episodes) so the entire show just ran on people from season 1. Adding in a time skip allowed them to massage the world a bit and add immigration (which was a hastily thrown together sub-plot detail in season 2) as what seems to be a new focal point.

So far so good. The Bifrost thing is not explained much since its the first episode but it seems to be some sort of challenge to Sybil and having a large, powerful, fully-functional challenger to Sybil seems kinda silly. Either way, a first episode dedicated mostly to world building and establishing the primary cast is good. Even the enforcers are already more clearly outlined than they were at any point in season 2 despite being basically: old chucklefuck, young chucklefuck, competent woman, and holdover dweeb from season 2.

I think its fine that Akane is not set up as a main character for this season. Her season 1 arc from rookie to elite was great. Her season 2 story of...doing things while Shimotsuki tried to sabotage her came to a conclusion. She couldn't advance in the Bureau because its corrupt and she couldn't work under Shimotsuki because of their conflict. So they had to sideline or kill her.

Average episode, not bad but not great. Engaging enough to keep me watching for a while longer.

I really dislike the sleepy detective though, because his ability is ridiculous, he just keeps solving every obstacle in his way without any effort whatsoever, it's so contrived and robs the story of any tension.
